i just read a very interesting book about olive oil and pcg is correct. it's one of the most commonly faked foodstuffs in the world. even stuff called extra virgin olive oil found in u.s. grocery stores is suspect. but high end verified excellent quality oil is commonly used in some mediterranean cultures as a balm. it might have been the people of crete, or malta, or some other unlikely place that use the stuff in amazing quantities per capita.

Interesting. Thanks for the input guys. Looks like I'll be buying the legit stuff then.

Leech, did you have the unscented, or one of the scented ones?

I use the AOS Sandelwood oil. I like it on the days that I have a couple days growth.

I had used it in the past but I would say if you are using a top-quality cream or soap, you really don't need to mess around with shaving oil. The AoS stuff is OK but can get a bit cloying. It would cause my face to get a bit itchy, but it worked nonetheless.

After my initial prep of a good face wash with a good quality soap, followed by a hot water rinse, I have found a light coating of Burt's Bees shaving cream, then I lather over the top with my normal choice of shaving soap or cream, there's loads of slip in that Burt's Bees.

I have used the AOS sandalwoods for years..good products. Now IMHO the pre shave oil is not helping me with the straight razor shaves...it feels like it sticks and cause at least to me trouble to get the blade to glide. It worked pretty well when I used cartridges but even then it would clog the blade to know end. I am trying to wean myself of it. Old habits are to break.

Unscented. But like I said, I don't really use it any more
