Thanked: 2Truefitt & Hill pre shave oil
Went on vacation last week and came across a little shop that was selling out their truefitt & hill shaving products, so I picked up a bottle of pre shave oil. It has a lemoney smell to it and is not oily or greasey at all, and it makes for a very smooth shave. This is the first pre shave oil I have ever used, but I recomend it highly.

Preshave oils don't get a whole lotta love. I use Art of Shaving sandalwood and enjoy it. I think the trick is to use very little. If it feels oily or greasy in the least, you've used too much. I use it every day as a hand moisturizer and love the way it smells and the way it makes your skin feel.

Gentlemen:
The Truefitt & Hill pre-shave oil is a top quality product, although it's been years since I used it. All you need is a small amount, yes.

Thanked: 1263Ive only ever owned/tried the T&H and Proraso for pre shaves. Although I don't use it very often I do enjoy the T&H, pleasant smell and improved glide. And as already stated, yes it is more expensive but considering you literally only need a couple of drops its not that bad in the scheme of things.

Thanked: 2I made my own pre shave oil from 30% castor oil, 70% grapeseed oil, and a few drops essential oil for scent. Like CATRENTSHAVING, I apply straight out of the shower while face is wet, then hot towel, then face lather. This step alone has done more for combating razor burn and nicks than any other step for me. It should be noted that I have dry skin, so the castor oil keeps my face moisturized for the duration of the shave. I have seen some posts where people apply the oil before every pass, but for me, once is enough. I understand everyone's needs vary, but if you have dry skin, this combo is amazing.
Hope this helps.

I too enjoy the T&H pre-shave oil...
On the first shave the difference I felt was hardly significant. But by the third use it was quite noticeable. It's been mentioned in other threads/forums that the effect seems to be cumulative - the more often you use it, the better the results. Given my own personal results, I agree - I believe it is actually softening and hydrating (e.g. protecting) the skin far more than softening the hairs. Whatever it is doing, the improvement is very worthwhile for me.
As much as I like T&H's though, the pre-shave balm from The Shave Den (they also have a menthol-ated version) works even better for me - and sweet heaven of mercy, does it ever smell good!John
