You are correct about the "cushion", that's what helps prevent irritation and make the whiskers stick up so you can shave them down.
I have tried only a handful of creams and soaps myself. I mostly use Bigelow mixed on a puck of Van der Hagen in my shaving mug for a really nice lather. Of course I will not dispute the fact that there are an infinite number of awesome creams and soaps out there to try; no matter what YMMV.

Thanked: 1195There are many 'brilliant' creams out there, it would be much easier if, as has already been mentioned, you narrowed it down to scent type. Especially considering many makers produce multiple scents.

Don't forget that many creams and soaps get even more creamy and smooth if you bowl lather and add 5-6 drops of glycerin.

Thanked: 485Musgo real Orange amber is nice, but maybe not a Winter cream, maybe more for Spring and Summer. The new formula is more natural than the old and Musgo Comes in a heap of different scents.
You also have to try Speick, La Toja and of course O Melhor. If O Melhor created a formula that was a little more natural it would be my favorite cream, the scent is excellent and it is an excellent performing cream...Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

Recommend a cream for me.
The Kiss My Face creams aren't half bad if you're looking for something more inexpensive. Just needs a lot of water to get the lather going.

I like Arlington and Co of London. Picked some up a while back and I am in love. Will never go to soaps again.

An excellent recommendation! In fact, all of the Castle Forbes scents are outstanding, though a regular size jar is a bit pricey.
If you want to save some money, get the travel size. You don't have to use a lot of CF to create a scrumptious lather, so it will last you awhile.
Just my 2 cents.
