I've picked up most of my stuff from either Target or Wal-Mart. I have been using Van Der Hagen (wal-mart) soap for a while now with decent results. The VDH soap is made better by adding Every Man Jack (Target) shave cream to a soup cup I picked up at Walmart when mixing my lather. The combo makes a pretty good lather. My brushes were bought at Walmart (VDH boars hair) and Target (VDH badger). For after shave I have been using Aqua Velva Ice Blue and Musk which I've picked up at Walmart.

The TOBS Jermyn St. aftershave cream is for sensitive skin, and it goes a long way to combat razor burn or any stinging I might get. Usually, the stinging is from either too many passes or even more likely, too much pressure. I ordered sample packs to try a lot of different creams and soaps. Aftershave is a little different story. Truefitt & Hill also has bigger sample packs that includes the AS, as does Geo. F. Trumper, but I figured I'd just try the different creams and soaps first just to figure out, in part, what scents I even like. So far, while the others are nice, I only really like two.

Truefitt & Hill includes matching aftershave balms with about 5 of their shaving cream scents, and then the rose, lavender and almond don't have a matching AS. Then, their "Ultimate comfort" is unscented, and also includes a pre-shave oil in addition to the shaving cream and aftershave balm. So, after a cold compress to close the pores and the unscented aftershave balm, you could go with any sort of scented alcohol-based splash you might want for a good no-sting antiseptic effect.

Welcome. I think we all had to do the same kind of research until we found something we liked.

When I first started, I found that after the alum and poraso, a moisturizer with Vitamin E was very soothing. Don't need it quite so much now.

I also found, being a DIY type, that I favored making my own glycerin based shaving soap with a little more bennonite clay in it to increase the slip. Very easy to do. The vendors will hate to hear that but it works for me.

As for finding that "favorite razor", good luck with that. Think in terms of a rotation, several razors kept in good order. Unless there are OCD issues in which case do a seach on SRP for "RAD".

Will we see you in Ft. Lee on Sunday?

Would have liked to have been there but caught the flu from the Grandkids. How was it?
