AFAIC, there is no need. I've shaved with vintage, new, hundreds of them and haven't sterilized the first one beyond a bit of metal polish on a paper towel for getting grunge off a vintage, or rinsing under the tap and wiping with a tissue. Unless somebody just cut a throat with it, you needn't worry about it. IMHO.

If it's someone's razor that I'm honing for them & there has only been a few of those, then I use Barbicide.
I shave test the razor, so I Barbicide it before & after, then return it.

Like jimmy said I personally dot go over the top with it. If a blade has just been sanded and polished that's plenty. If its vintage unrestored or some one else's razor I make sure it's clean ( not grimey) and hit is with water and wipe. I have a little jar of marvicide in my room, if on hand I may let it sit in the for a min prior to stroping. If your putting blade to a stone you are renewing the edge and removing metal which also cleans the edge as does stropping. I have never heard of any once contracting a blood Bourne illness from a straight... But maybe they didn't live to tell the tale! Lol j/k

I'm still skeptical to this whole "small small animals we can't see" thing, but I'd go with the soap and water, it'll actually kill almost anything.
A borrowed blade I'd swipe of with pure alcohol more of courtesy than necessity.
I would be more worried about what's on your skin than on the blade, human skin is not known to be very sterile!Hur Svenska stålet biter kom låt oss pröfva på.

Quick dunk in alcohol... Whether isopropyl or just high proof grain depends on what I have in stock. That and general edge maintenance.
Shaving with facial hair is like a golfcourse. It's a challenge of rough and fairways. You are the skilled greenskeeper of your face?

While on the subject, does any one know how they did in hospitals?
I've seen them dip them in alcohol and set it on fire something, didn't care much for them at the time but now I really would like to know!Hur Svenska stålet biter kom låt oss pröfva på.
