For what it's worth . . .
Gentlemen,
I don't fancy current designer aftershaves and colognes. And I dislike bay rum. My taste leans more toward some of the traditional fragrances. For what it's worth, here are my five preferred aftershaves and colognes.
Spanish Leather by Truefitt & Hill
Spanish Leather by Geo F Trumper
Woods of Wiindsor
Annick Goutal
Alvarez Gomez
Noting fancy. And yours?

Unlike you, Bay Rum is my favorite aftershave. But my next go to is DR Harris Marlborough and C&S Cuba

The dearly beloved's reaction
"What on earth are you wearing?"
"Bay rum aftershave."
She made a sour face and shuffled off.
My older daughter's reaction
"What is that disgusting smell?
"I'm afraid it's my bay rum aftershave, sweetie."
She made a big sour face and shuffled off.
My younger daughter's reaction
"Yikes, dad, what is that disgusting smell?"
"Bay rum aftershave, sweetie."
"Stinks like butt."
She made a face as if vomiting and shuffled off.
I tried to wash the bloody bay rum off my Hollywood face and had to smell it for two days.

A nice list of classic scents there, Obie!
I'm pretty much all over the place myself really.
New, old, fancy or common.
It's all the same to me, as long as it smells nice
Right, my list then:
Creed Sublime Vanille.
Amouage Epic Man
Boellis Panama Millesime
Guerlain Habit Rouge
Bond #9, Wall street.
I think....Bjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

My favorite colognes are centered on Creed and Penhaligon's for the most part, with one exception.
They are:
J. Peterman "1903" Vintage Cologne
Creed "Green Irish Tweed"
Creed "Tabarome"
Penhaligon's "Blenheim Bouquet"
Penhaligon's "Opus 1870""Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." Mark Twain
