Decided To Try My Hand At Making Beard Oil
Decided to try my hand at making Beard Oil today... Online Companies charge around $20/ounce and I thought I could do better... Turns out I was right! 3.4 ounces Argan Oil= $15, 1 ounce Patchouli essential oil= $7, Nag Champa essential oil= $6 and Sandalwood essential oil= $5 so total cost for ingredients was around $36 with tax included. I knew Argan Oil was going to be my Primary/Carrier Oil and after some experimentation with the above Scents my Recipe is: 67% Argan Oil, 23% Primary Scent (Patchouli or Nag Champa) and 10% Secondary Scent (Sandalwood... Which did not do well as a Primary Scent)... The Patchouli Primary brings the bright/vanilla tones of the Argan Oil down for a more Woodsy Scent whereas the Nag Champa Primary brings the bright/vanilla tones out for a Fresher Scent. Great stuff this Beard Oil and the Argan Oil really helps to condition, soften and relax your beard hair! Spread the word and save some dough!!!
To play with the percentages I just filled syringes with a bit of each oil then used drops onto a Little Wasabi Plate, mixed with a cut-off cotton swab, dipped the other end for a Scent Test and used a finger to then dip in and apply to my beard. My Wife was right there helping me out doing the Pre-Sniff and Post-Application Sniff Test.
The Argan Oil is readily available at Beauty Supply places and we sourced the Eseential Oils from a local Soapmaker's Shop so it is likely you could save even more ordering the Oils Online.
I had lots of fun and was surprised at overall how easy it was... Took maybe an hour and a half total to go buy the ingredients, set up the gear, mix, test, apply then do the math. I plan on doing a similar trial with a different bouquet of scents more toward Fresh/Citrus at a later date so am thinking of scents along those lines now... Post ideas if you have any!
