Most of the 'oud' formulations from the major houses I've smelled are synthetic, mind you on their own they are quite decent (re: YSL M7). However, if one has been spoiled by authentic oud one will realize synthetic formulations simply do not have the chops to compete.

For the record, I'm not familiar with Neil Millers suggestion.
