Default Bad news if you enjoy Oud oils and are in the U.S or Canada

I received a email from Taha of Agar Aura and he will no longer ship his Oud oils ,attars etc to the U.S or Canada due to newly amended CITES regulations (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of wild fauna and flora. Prior to the new ban ,Oud oils were worth more than their weight in gold and I can only imagine what my recently purchased 3 grams of Kemewahan oil will be worth in the future. The ban is will probably not affect the multinational corporations but may sound the death knoll for small outfits like Taha's.

CITES has done the same with Exotic woods and most animal products cannot ship pre ban Ivory to N.Y,N.J or Ca.
Wash. state is trying to pass laws to ban the the sale of all leagle Ivory, inc mammoth,an animal that died 10K yrs ago.

My lady friend has an Oud blend from 1999 and she wears it infrequently but every time she does, I comment of how good it smells. I would like to find an aftershave with a touch of Oud if one even exists but have no idea how it would play out in an aftershave. Thanks for the heads up.

Ermenegildo Zegna does a nice, subtle blend, but its expensive, from £100 - £150. It stays all day, has a quick dry-down and you only need a little, so its not as bad re value as it looks.

Most of the 'oud' formulations from the major houses I've smelled are synthetic, mind you on their own they are quite decent (re: YSL M7). However, if one has been spoiled by authentic oud one will realize synthetic formulations simply do not have the chops to compete.

For the record, I'm not familiar with Neil Millers suggestion.

    Neil,

I don't know why I am thanking you, I'm saving loose change now in a canvas bag for a 3 pack of tighty whities so doubtful that I'll be dropping $2 bills on this......Name: 62000470kr_12n_f.jpg

Size: 11.2 KB The Oud blend I mention above is an essential oil and still is an incredible fragrance......plus in the advert they mention, "Captivating and intoxicating, this scent is for nights that require something special." I might have to get into the time machine for one of those but thanks.....I"ll place it in the bag of dreams.

    to me

    Hi XXXX,

Thanks for the well wishes. At the moment, looks like I may have found out a solution that makes all 4 regulatory bodies happy.
It seems to 'work' on paper.. now I just gotta test it in real life. Should be ready to implement by the 25th of Feb. Let's see!

    Regards,
    Taha

I received an update from Ensar Oud, a new Oud Perfume they released: Ambra, and in my haste I quickly placed an order.

I had completely forgotten about this whole schmozzle so I sent an email inquiring as to concerns over my shipment.

    The response:

    Hello XXXXX,

Yes, there seems to be some concern at a certain port of entry at the USA, however, our packages have not been affected. Rest assure that your package will reach you safely

    We're at your service.
    Yay!

    Edit:

    It just arrived!

I emailed Ermenegildo Zegna to ask about the use of synthetics in their products. Below is a quote from them:
    Dear Mr. Clark,

We do not use synthetic scents for our Essenze collection.
