I just put my thumb over the opening of my bottle of Dominica Bay Rum to control the output.
Works great!!

I just use my index finger, but then again I have fairly large hands.
I do find it interesting however that we are discussing ways to avoid spilling a liquid out of a bottle due to carelessness on a site dedicated to using a sharp unprotected blade while partially clothed. LMFAO!

Thanked: 0Actually...
I don't think the original post had anything to do with carelessness, thank you.
It had to do with the way you have to splash out an ungodly amount of aftershave on your hands and the bowl to get it on your face given the shape and nature of most aftershave bottles, and a remedy for what I and the original poster saw (I think) as waste. All that perfectly fine Bay Rum and 4711 running down my arms and into the sink, makes me want to crawl in...
But the fact that I am using a scary shape blade around my oh-so-delicate flesh is not wasted on me, you may trust.

I intended no offense with my post. Not sure if any was taken since it's so difficult to decipher tone in plain text. My "carelessness" comment came less from the original poster's line: "...spilling an uneven amount..." ("Spilling" to me in that usage implied a certain amount of carelessness) than from your "I actually hit one of the bottles one day and spilled the damn thing all over the floor" post. It wasn't as much of a value judgment as I think may have been interpreted.
That being said I do agree that it can be difficult to properly meter the amount of liquid that manages to make it around my index finger to the other palm. On the other hand it's not like it's liquid platinum or anything. Just as in golf balls or dorritos, use all you want they'll make more.

No offense taken - trust me I have flailed once or twice with a sharp razor in my hands because of cats and stomping wives and alarm clocks going off in the middle of my coup de maitre - all of which have been DEALT with, trust me!
I have actually had this Dominica Bay Rum stain some towels and eat a little finish off the cabinets, so I would really like to control it better - the mouth on these bottles is bigger than a soda bottle! Hard even for those of you with thick masculine fingers to stopper!
Spray bottle, fits the bill - just do it!

I liked the tabasco bottle idea too. Wonder if there are antique collectable tabasco bottles? Might help lessen this RAD if I had TBAD, LOL. J.

Ok gents,
Time for a bit of a (informal) history lesson. I was getting some fine grit sand paper from an auto supple store near my home, and chatted with the guy that helped me out. Turns out he's a big collector of bottles and told me a bit o history about tabasco.
Turns out that if you clean out the the tabasco bottle and filled it with aftershave or fagrance, you'd be repeating history...in reverse.
That's right, the tabasco company found that the perfect dispensing container for their hotsauce was old parfume bottles. They cleaned them out and filled them back up (the top was still the same back then).
I just thought it was a bit ironic that we'd turn back the pages of history.
