My humble entry.
It's more of a double entry really, since I wrote one for my first experience with AS splash (below), and one for an experience with AS lotion/balm (later this week or early next week)
*AS Splash*
When starting out my wet shaving journey, a few years back, I decided to start out with some classic staples. Nothing too fancy. Some Clubman AS, Col Conk shaving soaps, Merkur razor, a decent best badger brush, and a sampler of blades. I also purchased a dependable SR.
Among them was Pinaud Clubman Virgin Island Bay Rum, aka VIBR.
When it arrived, I really enjoyed the bottle and the slightly-askew label. It had character.
Then I removed the cap and took a big sniff. Wow, this definitely has character.
Like the kind of character I would expect from 10 rounds in a ring with a hungry wolverine.
I couldn't wait to try it after a shave.
So, I after my first wet shave (Merkur 33C + Astra platinum blade + Col Conk Almond shaving soap + badger brush. WTG + XTG + AGT) I expectantly looked at my VIBR bottle. I was curious and hesitant about how it would smell after application.
I could pick up the cloves from sniffing the bottle, but how would it react with my body chemistry?
I placed a generous portion in the cupped palm of my left hand, rubbed both hands together, and expectantly rubbed it all over my face.
Wow, this stuff smells very nice. Loving the spices. Wow, so this is what a bay rum smells like? I'm really going to enjoy bay rums. And I'm really a pro at this wetshaving thing.
I really...ahem...what?
What's the deal with my face, it's as if...ahem...I don't remember rubbing my face with a rusty cheese grater.
What...in the name of all that is good and holy...Woah! Sweet Fancy Moses!
I was completely caught by surprise by the slightly delayed reaction of this juice.
I had to slap my face to help with the burn, and I guess I must have vocalized my reaction because SWMBO walked by to ask me if I was ok.
Anyway, this was my first exposure to bay rums splashes. A very stiff "good morning to ya!" type of shave, for sure.
I am pleased to report that I have come to expect and enjoy the burn associated with bay rums.
The burn reminds me that I'm alive and well, and that I had just enjoyed the luxury of a wet shave.
I will post my AS lotion/balm experience later this week or early next week.
Great entries so far, gentlemen.

Thanked: 4206Piccadilly ASC
Picked this up from ClassicEdge up here, but available through shavenation and a few others States side as well.
A fairly priced lotion in a compact pump dispenser. Top notch British performance at a deceivingly good price point.
Their shave cream is on my personal top 5 list as well, but I keep that on the down low.
The scent is distinct but not particularly long-lasting. Even though it’s labeled as “sandalwood” the scent is a little more complex than that.
From their website:
Fragrance Notes: Top notes of rosemary, amber, geranium, & lavender. Middle Notes of orange blossom, carnation, & fern. Base Notes sandalwood, rock rose, patchouli, vetivert, & musk.
Compared to SV 70th, or nivea, my only other AS lotions, the face feel, absorption, and softness of skin are par, or slightly better, IMO. Scent duration, also par with SV, and that may just be the way it is with lotions vs traditional AS's. Not sure.
No face tingle when applied and only a single pump needed, good spread and mileage.
Wife prefers the scent to the SV on me, and when it comes back to pricepoint, it's an easy decision.
Worth a try to add to the kit.

Thanked: 55Started shaving about age 16. Used 4711. Many dirty looks from all the girls I fancied later, finally asked one why? They were all trying to figure out why I reminded them of their grandads.

In my early 20's I was headed downtown for a night out. Looking good riding my motorcycle behind a farm truck when the brakes flashed on the truck and out from the dual tires came a skunk. A little jog on the road to miss it and I was thinking I was glad I wasn't tailgating the truck. When I got into town I had a hard time keeping my good friends near let alone the ladies!
