    Default Aftershave Recommendations

I am somewhat new to straight razor shaving. I have been using Col Conk products and really like them. However, I have been breaking out after my shaves. I rinse with cold water and then apply the Col Conk Natural Lotion afterwards. Should I be using an aftershave and/or something with alcohol in it to stop the acne problem.

Hey there, brlaskowski. Welcome to Straight Razor Place!
My recomendation would be Thayer's Witch Hazel. It comes as a non-alcohol toner, or as an asteingent with alcohol.

    Well, I use both.
I use the toner more in the winter, when I'm more prone to dry skin. In the summer I use the astringent, and alcohol-based lotions, more.

Did you have problems with breaking out prior to the Colonel Conk? If not your probkems might be related to the shave itself, like improper angle or too much pressure.

I made the switch from electric razor to straight razor, so I never did wet shaving. I will never go back, but just want to stop the breakouts afterwards. I figured that maybe something with alcohol would help with that. I typically have some mild acne anyways since I have oily skin, but figured the lotions aren't helping that cause. Can you send me a link to some of the products?

As Hirlau correctly points out...to be a full fledged member of the SRP Club, you must, it's a requirement, have a bottle of Pinaud Clubman on hand at all times.

On Friday's, it is mandatory to only use Pinaud's Clubman; hence, "Clubman Friday's", of which Hirlau is the Grand PooBah of said organization.

The fact that to some it smells like used Kitty Litter, is simply beside the point, and is still mandatory equipment.

    Anything Pinaud Clubman.
Just not the Vegetal, its the one that smells like cat urine.

You might think about a alum block, as well as the Thayers witch hazel.
I prefer the medicated with aloe Thayer's, its also a astringent.
Not that I have skin acne, but I've read that alum has helped many that do. But it has helped me with ingrown hairs, and the white pussy pimples. No more problems with that..!!
