I recently took delivery of the Captain's Choice Bay Rum as well as their "Cat o Nine Tails" product. I liked the Bay Rum okay, though I don't find it notably better than Dominica. As for the Co9T, honestly, I don't know why there is so much excitement over the "burn." Dominica has a much stronger initial burn than the Co9T. The latter does hang on a while, but not so much as to merit, in my judgment, putting it in the permanent rotation. I will use up this bottle before making a final judgment, but for me, Cat o' Nine Tails is not a keeper. Not bad, just not sufficiently noteworthy to keep buying. The Captains Choice Bay Rum Aftershave is pretty nice, but again, I'm not immediately struck that it's a cut above the other better bay rums I've tried. So far, my favorites remain Dominica and Turtle Bay.

I'm not trying to promote a vendor here, but for information only, you can order either from their own site at:
Turtle Bay Rum or from Barclay Crocker, at:
Barclay Crocker, Inc. :: Colognes & Perfumes

I went to the barber yesterday and he slapped some Stephan's Bay Rum on the back of my neck. I really liked the scent and it has staying power. I took a shower about five hours after my haircut and could still smell the Stephan's.
I almost always use a balm instead of a lotion but I might buy a bottle of this. An added bonus is the wife liked it and we usually don't like the same scents.

Yes - I've got the Cat as well, very earthy, definitely takes a bit getting used to, it's a so / so for me. I'll put in on simply to use as an AS, but not for anything special. And yes, that so-called, feel the burn, didn't really ever feel it, at least no where close to the point that is claimed....

Funny this thread popped into my inbox again.
Maybe it's the exposure to the air, which could make sense, but have used the Co9t several times recently and it's really mellowed and turned out quite nice! I've even had a few compliments on it.
Still doesn't burn as advertised, but it has developed quite a nice scent....my two cents!
