Thanked: 0The Very Best Sandalwood?
Hi All,
What, in the opinion of this forum, is the very best sandalwood cologne available? Considering a purchase and want to get it right. I have some Trumpers sandalwood skin food and wish to coordinate it appropriately (Jeez my feminine side may be dominante here! )
Regards to all,
Sleekit

Hmmm...
I think scent is a very subjective thing, but in my humble opinion, the Art of Shaving Sandlewood scent is pretty hard to beat. Call it a guilty pleasure! I have said before that I recognize the fact that they don't get or deserve much Straight shaving street cred (at least for now this is the case) but, they have this scent figured out.
You can get a sample if you live near one or by calling them if you don't.
Good luck on the hunt! I will check back to see what you end up with as this is one of my favorite scents.

Thanked: 174I find real sandalwood scent to be just too powerful.
Most scent with the sandalwood label are actually combinations of scent that subdue the overpowering sandalwood.
Crabtree and Evelyn is pleasant and good value but Trumpers I found to be the most powerful. It's pretty hard not to make a good sandalwood scent. I think AOS and Trumpers are the ones who use the true essential oils rather than a synthetic scent. The essential oil is expensive to purchase and reflects in the price of a true bottle of Sandalwood.

To me, the best Sandalwood cologne is Floris Sandalwood EDT, but its been discontinued. If you can get your hands on a bottle, do it. Its true to the "pure" sandalwood, but with a little more warmth. I've read that Tamdao Diptyque (sp?) makes something close to the Floris.
I also like the Trumper version, but find that it doesn't really smell like true sandalwood.
There are many sandalwood variants out there so go hunting....good luck

Thanked: 0Thanks for this guys. I did like the Trumpers sample I had but wasn't sure before making the purchase. A bit more research yet me thinks.
I seem to swing between very strong masculine scents and ones some folks here describe as feminine, eg Trumpers Milk Of Flowers. Maybe the cycle of the moon is influencing me! ;o)

Hi Sleekit,
I went through that sandalwood thingy a while back, and I have a few options to consider. I should mention that these are gonna take you a while to carry out, but I'll figure you're on a 'serious' quest...heh.
First and foremost, don't listen to anyone else when it comes to how something smells. You know how different sandalwood scented soaps are from each other? How each company has their own take on what that should smell like? Same thing with colognes. Eveyone's being well meaning in steering you towards their favorites, but it's a total crapshoot as far as you liking what they like. It's just the way things are.
Take a look over at Perfume Samples, Perfume Decants and Vintage Perfumes - The Perfumed Court and be prepared to do a little reading. They have the fragrances grouped by 'notes', and you'll find lots of sandalwood products to choose from. Sample sizes are available for purchase, including 'sample packs' with all sandalwood scents I believe. I've ordered from those ladies many times, and would recommend em. A bit pricy maybe, but it beats buying a bottle blind and finding you hate the stuff..........heh.
Then, when you see something you think might work, go over to Basenotes - independent online guide to 11780 fragrances, with articles, fragrance news, 38806 fragrance reviews and more... and read about the product member reviews.
I tried many sandalwood scented EdT's, and very few actually smelled as described by others. Funny how that works, but each sniffer's different.
Hope that helps
Martin
