Here is some really good advice.... Witch Hazel at drug store. Works great and is low priced. No noticable scent. I use this because my wife gets migraines from strong scents.

Thanked: 0I use Nivea for Men ASB, which you can find in pretty much any drug or grocery store. It's inexpensive and goes a long way ($6 for 3.3oz and it gets me through probably a years' worth of shaves). It's a light scent but still masculine, and doesn't linger for very long. Does a great job of moisturizing, too.

Thanked: 102Colorado Sage
Try Colorado Sage. Made by Bonnie Bell Corp. You have to order it. Look on their website under the Heritage Collection. It was popular back in the 70's. Clean fresh smell without the Grandpa effect.
Never met anyone yet who did not like it.

Hi Craig, there is nothing wrong with asking your wife, I do that all the time. And I certainly did not mean it as if she controlled your life or anything like that. One thing that I cannot understand is how you bought a scent that you thought was too strong and you knew would bother your wife. I usually do not buy a product that I do not like, or something that I know will offend people around me (sometimes I do ;-)), regardless of whether or not it is on sale. I usually try them before I buy. After shaves are so personal that some people absolutely love the smell of those timeless scents, those that make you smell like your grandpa, they find them nostalgic and classic, while others look down on them. I love Bay rum, a scent that I doubt you would like. It fades away really fast but it has the spicy aroma to it. I think there are 2 issues here: 1) the potency of the scent, which can easily be controlled by using more or less of the stuff; and 2) the scent per se, which you should probably pick yourself. Good luck in your search and let us know what you buy.

Thanked: 37I tried to get a tube the Nivea balm but my Longs was out. The guy there said the Loreal balm was on par so I went with that. Based on the recommendations here I think I am going to go with the Stephans and Harris Pink.
Al, I dig what your saying but hey, it was 99 cents. How can you go wrong? It comes down to that boy/girl/communication thing. When I learn how to correctly talk to women I will write a book and go on Oprah.

I appreciated your comment, I can see no hard feelings, which is what I wanted to make sure of as there no malice in my comment. As for " How can you go wrong?", I think that you can answer that question now... ;-). L'occitane makes some after shave lotions with fairly contemporary scents. I personally prefer the old timers ;-), but they are good. They are a bit pricey though.

Personally, I like alcohol splashes, but I follow this with a balm so as not to dry out. My favorite splash is Proraso - clean smelling, alcohol is not too strong, and the scent fades away quickly. Clinique Post Shave Healer is a great unscented balm. For a non-alcohol, cooling aftershave, it is hard to beat any of Mama Bear's ice milks.

Thanked: 101I got a little Pinaud Clubman on my hand last night and the wife demanded I wash my hands. She can't stand strong smells either (headache). I have been using a Gillette Gel AS and it seems to work well. It goes on feeling hot and then cools the face quickly and everything is nice and toned and tight after it's done it's thing. I would like to branch out and try some others too. I have thought about Aqua Velvet Blue. Any thoughts.

You could always just use Witch Hazel as an aftershave. It is an astringent and a toner which is basically the same thing an aftershave does.
