    Default Shave bump/ingrown solutions

Has anyone ever tried Bump Stopper, Clubman Bump Repair, Woodys Ingrown repair (Sold by SRD) or Bump Patrol, or any other Ingrown hair bump repair treatment. I get a few bad ones every now and then and My wife gets really bad ones under her arm. Just wondering if any of these actually work.

    Thanks for any input.

For sensitive areas its hot towel and witch hazel. In over 40 years I have not found a better solution.

In my opinion, razors bumps are best prevented using proper
shaving technique in most cases. I've heard that even when
certain types of hair (usually very coarse and curly) are not
cut below the skin that bumps can arise, however.

Very true. Course and curly hair should never be cut below skin level. That means that you must learn to get a clean cut on minimal passes. A clean cut means that a sharp razor is essential to a good shave. Too sharp and you are cutting skin that will grow back very quickly and trap the new growth. Multi blade razors are definitely not the way to go. Too dull, and you mangle the end which is going to did nto the flesh, and again trap the new growth.

    Its a delicate balancing act.

I guess I should have better explained that all i wanted to know about was the bump repair products like clubman, bumpstopper and the like.

but all the pointers for shaving are appreciated...just not what i was going for in this thread...

    Default I Use Clubmans

Only because it is a gel antiseptic. None of them will prevent the damage of a poor shave.

Yes, I've used Bump Patrol. I think it DOES work, but it's not a silver bullet or overnite cure. For me, it took several applications, but I think it may have speeded up the recovery/healing. Once you've got a bump or bumps, I figure it can't make it any worse to try it.

Since you're also wanting info on "any other ingrown treatment" I can share my method. I use ice cold water as first rinse after shaving then the potassium alum stuff, follow that by another ice cold rinse, pat dry and finish by applying Thayers alcohol free with hazel. It reduces ingrowns down to almost none.

I have a small patch on my neck that has been notorious for irritation and ingrowns for about 20 years now. Even with a straight and very careful technique I sometimes anger that area and get some ingrowns. Not even remotely close to the number I'd get with electrics, multi-bladed and even DEs.

I don't have curly facial hair and I agree then that for me, ANY ingrowns mean that I did something wrong even if it was minor during shaving. Things I have done or still continue to do wrong at times:

Bad angle in a certain area
    Improperly honed razor
    Bad prep
    Too much pressure
Wrong approach for a delicate area
Wrong shaving angle for a specific area

    To name a few reasons.

I consider myself a "poster boy" for ingrowns. I can't stand it, and I've tried just about everything to prevent it. That's actually part of why I chose to pick up shaving with a straight razor. Anyway, about your initial question, I've tried Bump Stopper (didn't work for me); tried High Time Bump Stopper (no good); Clubman's Bump Repair (over the past month, not significant results, but I love the smell). Today I just got something called "Solution 2" by MiN. The reviews on Amazon looked good (that is never too much to go off of anyway), so I figured I'd give it a try. I'm really new to straight razor shaving, second time today, and my first go I got horrible razor burn. Today went really well though and I'm not seeing too many bumps. Only did one pass on the neck, WTG and XTG on face and cheeks. Once I get better at it, we'll see how my neck holds up to another pass. I'll try and remember to give you some feedback on this new product.

I have ingrown hair problems because the hair on my neck is curly. It's not a problem of shaving too close and the hair getting trapped, it's a problem of the hair curling back into the skin after it grows out.

Tweezers work best for me to pull the tip back out of the skin before I shave. I've tried a few products with no real improvement. I think facial scrub in the shower and good moisturizer has actually been more beneficial to me than the expensive treatments.
