Need scent advice....
OK, so here’s the story. A few months ago, I fell in love with Ogallala Bay Rum and Sandalwood. So in love, I use the bath bar, the deoderant AND the aftershave.
My wife knows how much I love it. She has known since the first time I wore it. She is a very good woman, and only very recetnly did she tell me a little secret that she had been hoping to avoid. She hates it. HATES it. Like, please don’t ever use it when I am going to be getting up within the hour and have to share a bathroom. ( my old shave den is now a kiddie bathroom)
Now, I have a few others that I like, lime, rose, Floids, etc. But I need something classic. Something manly yet wonderful…well, something like BR&S, just with no BR in it.
Maybe a Sandalwood Splash? Who makes the best? I like nice conditioning, with alc or without is fine. A subtle scent with some staying power is what I’m looking for….
Maybe somthing I haven't thought of? I love the "warm" scent of the BR&S...
So depressed...I really loved using it, and now I am relegated to using it only when a sufficient cushion of time or disctance separates my morning routine from her nose...
Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanked: 155Scent is a very personal choice, pretty much between you and your wife. And, please do not use the word "splash" when refering to aftershave.

I already have a bottle of that one, and it's REALLY expensive! Cost me a condo, a car and a cat! Oh, and a really nice stereo and CD's.
Agreed that is personal, of course. I'm looking for recommendations for others to try that might have simialr characteristics to the Ogallala BR&S without the bay rum that she finds objectionable.
As for "splash," I have used it for a long time to refer to non-balm aftershaves, usually alcohol or witch hazel. What is the more appropriate term?Last edited by smokelaw1; 07-16-2009 at 04:30 PM.

Thanked: 155Just aftershave would be fine as I believe the exclusion of balms, skin milks and other such frau-frau should be understood. If you must differentiate, then alcohol based aftershave should be sufficient.
The term "splash makes me think of those effete AXE(tm) and similar ads targeted at the metrosexual demographic.

Hey Smoke, I wish I could help you on suggesting a new scent, but I only splash the occasional blend of pure essential oils on, one of them being sandalwood. Ok, I don't splash on the essential oils because they'd really be too costly to splash.
However whatever alternative scents you do find, please share them here and as far as I'm concerned, if you want to splash it on, splash away.

If you're just looking for Sandalwood, SRD sells Yardley's, and it's on sale right now. I've never tried it, but Lynn and Don rave about it. It's actually real sandalwood, not synthetic from what I understand.
I feel your pain. My GF has already poo pooed a few of my expensive soap acquisitions. Shame.

Thanked: 317Not a bad idea, but divorce is an acquired scent. Usually takes a few months to realize how refreshing it is.
In all seriousness to the OP, I'd take her with you to some place that sells different essential oils and let her decide what she really likes. Then it's just a matter of finding the stuff you need with the same scents.
Having a scent you like is important, but not nearly as important as having a scent your wife likes. Fortunately, I hate bay rum just as much as my girlfriend does.

Thanked: 953my wife doesn't like bay rum either. (I love domenica, pinaud, boosters but actually can't stand BR&S, but I digress). I keep my pinaud in my gym bag, because I don't see her for hours after gym and it's long gone by then. She love Aqua Velva (but I can't stand it). Oh well.
DRHarris makes a sandalwood aftershave, and they have the sandlewood inspired marlboro aftershave. I bet both are very good.
C&E makes an ok sandlewood cologne.
Booster's bay rum aftershave is so mild it doesn't annoy my wife.
