Funny, the term splash makes ME think of the amusing Tom Hanks film about the super hawt mermaid.

But it is still the accepted word for an aftershave that is not a balm, milk or lotion...The word used by makers and users alike. Sorry to hurt your delicate feelings...

Smoke, if you want a masculine scent that many women love, Penhaligon's English Fern. It's a different TYPE of masculine, a more sophisticated masculine (think James Bond in evening wear, rather than James Bond kicking the crap out of terrorists...Sean Connery, not Daniel Craig), but very very good.

If you're looking for something darker and warmer, perhaps Amber? It's all viking-y and spicey...

    Jim,
Thanks, I think I might try both of those. Now to go internet shopping.

    THANKS TO ALL!

I feel your pain. My GF has already poo pooed a few of my expensive soap acquisitions. Shame.

Yardley's is a cologne, though, not really meant to be a soothing "afterhave" right?

Hit up Bath and Body Works and check out their Elixir Red. try out the tester and give it a few minutes to fully dry down. If you like sandalwood you will likely love this stuff. The aftershave balm has all the good stuff in it and works great and is not expensive especially when they are having a sale. They have several products with the same scent.

Smoke,I'm in the same boat as you,my wife doesn't like the Bay rum scents either.I have to wear them when I'm working and she won't be around me most of the day. Taylor of Old Bond Street makes a terrific Sandalwood a/s,yes it's called a "splash".The DR Harris Marlborough is also very nice with a smoky aspect that gives it more depth than the Taylor's. Both are pretty reasonably priced and a little goes a long way.

I have the DR Harris Marlborough and although I love it, this thread is the first relation with sandalwood that I see. Never noticed it, and I like sandalwood a lot.

Now if you want something übercool: Tabac. Just check the thread in the soap section.

I use Tabac soap almost every day...does the a/s smell anything like it? I'm one of the very rare ambivalent people about the scent. Doesn't bother me, but I'm not in love with it.

From what I read, it's the same as the soap, but in a splash form and a bit stronger. I'm considering picking it up, as it's not the most expensive stuff anyway.

Wel, ordered the Harris Sandalwood and Marlborough.

First test complete...she hates the Marlborough ALMOST as much as Bay Rum.

Anybody want to buy a 99.9% full bottle of it for like 10 bucks and shipping?
