Trumper's Samples
I've been thoroughly enjoying samples received from a number of companies and this morning I broke into the Geo. Trumpers Limes.
Really liked the rich lather of the shave cream and the scent was envigorating but not overpowering. The lather was certainly top notch and allowed for a very comfortable shave. I finished off with the limes face food; first time I'd tried the face food and was quite impressed. Used what I considered a scant dab-about the size of a dime, maybe less. This was more than enough! The sample they sent might be 5-7 ml and I expect that it will last quite a while (15-20 applications maybe). Refreshing and very quickly absorbed; really a marvelous product. I'll be using it regularly (whenever I can talk myself out of using T&H original balm--but that's another review). I topped it off with a dab of their limes cologne. Same great scent, but I'm not sure that I'd want to use this as my regular cologne. I did find however, that at least on me, it did not last as long as some of the Truefitt and Hill colognes--within 2-hours scent gone . In general, I like the limes shaving cream and face food; I'll probably pass on the cologne. The subdued scent of the shaving cream and face food (I think) would still allow some other cologne to be worn afterward if desired. One day soon I'll try it and post the results. On the other hand, one could go off to face the world quite happy and refreshed sans scent after a refreshing limes morning ritual.
Stay tuned for Trumper's Rose -- Ed

This morning it was Trumpers Rose shaving cream, coral skin food, followed by Euchris eau de toilette.
My word!!! I love this stuff. The rose shaving cream has a light subdued scent that is very pleasant. Does not startle your senses or wake you up; nor does it suffuse the entire bathroom with an aroma that tells the entire household that You're shaving. The quality is equal to the limes I tried yesterday--top notch. I've got to assume that all of the shaving creams within each of the major houses is the same base, modified only by the scent. I've found the T&H has a stronger 'native' or base scent than the Trumpers. I like them both, but would use them differently. The Rose this morning does not seem to linger, thus, I think it would be possible to use any of your favorite colognes afterward without risk of 'cross contamination'. I don't know if this would be the case with any of the T&H creams. However, that too would not be a problem (at least for me) because I'd follow any particular T&H scent with the same fragrance cologne.
Anyway, back to the Trumpers Rose. I followed the shave with my first use of the Coral Skin Food. Lovely. I think I like this better than the Limes, but am looking forward to many more comparisons, because as I mentioned yesterday, the sample they sent was quite generous; I figure 15 applications, maybe more, in the bottle. I followed the skin food with a dab of Euchris behind each ear. This may be my favorite scent yet (although I really enjoy T&H 1805 and Trafalgar as well)--it seems that my Christmas list is growing longer by the day . I got an opinion from the two loves of my life; my 7-year-old daughter did not like the Euchris at all, her least favorite of any I've tried to date. She couldn't describe why she didn't like it, just that it smelled funny. My wife on the other hand (who typically does not like perfumes or colognes at all) said that this was the best so far. So it looks like we have a 'hung jury'. I guess I'll just have to keep looking.
I've still four more Trumpers shaving cream samples to try, as well as a large number of colognes...but a package from Taylor's of old Bond street arrived last evening. Decisions, decisions I'll let you know what I decide to do tomorrow.
I was thinking of moving this thread to a blog (more a shaving log)...any opinions?

Hey Prof!
How did you get the Trumper samples? I tried to send them an e-mail to an address I got on their website and it came back as undeliverable.
I'd really like to get ahold of some GFT samples, specifically, the skin food(s) but haven't been able to make contact with them. Any suggestions??

I sent an email to their website and got a positive response. They also said it might take a little longer due to the holiday season. Try again.

I used the e-mail address which was on their "contact us" page. It was enquiries@trumpers com (dot intentionally omitted). I received an "undeliverable" reply. So, I still have been unable to contact them. I'll try again this weekend.
Where were you within their website? Do you remember?

The person I've been in contact with is Miss. Rebecca Baron. Do me a favor when you write to ask for samples, address the note to her and let her know that you've been hearing good things about their products from me on this forum. She has been very accomodating and I'd like to do my best to develop a good relationship (business relationship ) with her.
The email address is: [email protected]
obviously the same one you used, so try again. It may just have been a glitch in your system.

Spanish Leather....?
What do you think of the Trumper Spanish Leather fragrance? That is one of my faves. Wife loves it too, which always helps. Penhaligon's Opus 1870, Castle Forbes Keig, Trumper Spanish Leather, T & H 1805, Penhaligon's English Fern, Castle Forbes Limes (not LIMEY at all), Trumper's Eucris, man there are so many that are beyond belief. If you haven't gotten samples from Penhaligon's yet and like the REALLY English scents, they're tough to beat. You have so much fun ahead of you. I know, because I can still see you in my rearview on this fantastic journey... .....Jeff

You'll find that the citrus type scents normally don't last long at all. The more complex fragrances, the ones with several - or more - notes will last longer. The Castle Forbes Limes has a good lime scent at first, but is so complex. The lime'ness is gone fairly quickly as one might expect, but there are other layers that stay with you all day. HIGHLY recommended. I suppose it OUGHT to be complex at the price they are asking HAH! ...........Jeff

I've been using the trumpers now for quite awhile. Their shave soap is marvelous stuff very rich with a subtle scent I much prefer it to the Vulfix cream which I think has an overpowering artificial scent to it though it works very well. I have also been using the coral skin food and its great stuff and their aftershave is great also especially the wild fern. They really have a great line.
Recently I have been trying the art of shaving its all herbal based stuff and is pretty good also as a matter of fact I have a small sample of both their pre shave oil and aftershave balm the first person who sends me their address can have it.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero
