    Default Castle Forbes Pre-shave

Just my observation, but the Castle-Forbes pre-shave does very little for the price, and it is not quite unscented. It kind of smells like stale water when you put it on your skin. The Taylor of Bond Street Herbal Gel does a much better job for half the price. At least in my observation, individual experiences may vary.

Individual experience varies greatly in my case. I use it sparingly on the chin area after the shower, and it does soften my beard considerably. It is not quite unscented, though.

    Default Castle Forbes Pre-shave

    Hello, everyone:

The Castle Forbes pre-shave I have yet to try, although, I admit, the hefty price puts a clamp on my humble wallet. Taylor's Herbal Gel I do have, but I am undecided on how much it improves my shave.

Thus far, after many years of wet shaving, I go plus or minus on the usefulness of pre-shaves in general. Obviously some will work better than others, depending much on the individual's stubble, overall preparation, and so on. As for me, one of these days I might have to make up my mind about them.

    Or not.

    Regards,

    Obie

I agree with not being sure how much they help. At least back in the U.S. where I have nice soft and hot water. Over here in Afghanistan, the water is full of chemicals and rarely warm if even hot. So I have definately noticed improvement when using the Taylor of Bond street gel in those conditions. The gel seems to leave a light coat under my soap like oil would, but without the residue. The Castle Forbes stuff just soaks into the skin and leaves no barrier. I have also had some pretty good results from Feather's Pre-shave, but I can't find anywhere that sells it anymore.

Actually, All pre shave oil, or even CF works better the more you use it. I'm at the bottom of my CF pre shave bottle, and I'd buy it again. It's not like a greasy oil, like
most it's different. Oil and water seperates, that's what sets CF apart from the others.
I do notice a difference when I shave, Again, you have to use these pre shaves religiously, for months to really notice a difference. If you don't like CF, try AOS or Truefitt and Hill, which is lemon scented...very nice...
    We have assumed control !
