Thread: pre shave oil ideas.......

so what your saying fcc, is that if i get tired of using the jojoba oil on my face, i can wax my car with it, now that is cool, i may have to try that I use jojoba oil and find it to work fairly well, but then again, i may just be a sucker for a good thing, lol but i will definately follow this thread and see where it goes

Ok so far i have discovered that
a 1:1 mix seems to work best for me,

when i used more castor oil. i really noticed no real effect and when using more oilive oil my skin didn`t feel as "clean" and a little more greasy after wards,

the oilive oil/castor oil mix works much better than the preshave oils i have bought from the super market, my shaves are much more comfortable, and i don`t have as much trouble building a lather on my face.

I have just ordered, some eucaliptus oil. to add to my mix.

I chose eucaliptus as it offers many of the properties i would like,
it is an antiseptic so should prevent any spots on my face.
it has "soothing" atributes also so should help to keep my skin calm after shaving.
and it also clenses the skin.

I should add that all of the above atributes i have taken as gospal from the web site i purchased the oil from.


does any one have any ideas as to how much i should add to my shave oil mix?

To begin you need a small container to keep your pre-shave oil in. If you ever purchased a bottle of pre-shave oil you can use the empty bottle. Otherwise, any small glass or plastic jar with a secure top will work.

Step 2

Purchase a bottle of essential oil (lavender essential oil works great). Use Google Shopping to find a great deal. You can typically find a 0.5 oz bottle for about $10.

Purchase a bottle of castor oil. Again, use Google Shopping to find a great deal. You can typically find a 32 oz bottle for about $10.

Purchase a bottle of olive oil (yes, the same stuff you use to cook with). You can get this at your local grocery store and it generally costs about $10 for a 17 oz bottle.

Now that you have your ingredients you just need to combine them in the right proportions. These don't have to be exact and are generally 2 parts castor oil, 1 part olive oil, and 5 to 7 drops of lavender essential oil.

Fill your bottle a third of the way up with olive oil, then fill it almost to the top with castor oil (leave a little room for the lavender oil). Now add 5 to 7 drops of the lavender essential oil.

Tightly close the top to the bottle and shake well to mix the oils. That's it, you're done! You won't be able to tell the difference between the oil you just made and the expensive stuff you buy at the store.

A typical bottle of quality pre-shave oil costs $22 for a 2 oz bottle. Using the steps above, each bottle costs you:

- 25 cents for the lavender oil
- 40 cents for the castor oil
- 40 cents for the olive oil

I was really interested in doing this becasue I felt the oils that I have used don't let the blade slide as easily. I used the oils with my fusion and that worked great, but with a straight it looks to be a different story. I have a couple recipies that I am hoping to try out this week and will post them here after I play around with the ingredients.

I was also able to find a couple recipies for shaving soap and shaving cream. I will post that info in a different thriead to keep this one clean, but keep your heads up the next couple days for the recipies.

Well i`ve been using the eucaliptus oil now for a couple of weeks,
In a bottle i have aprox 100ml of oilive oile 100ml of castor oil and a teaspoon of eucaliptus oil.
Its a really refreshing smell first thing in the morning.
I havent noticed any diffrence in the mecanics of the oil and the way it behaves while i shave but at least it smel nice now.

I've been using Baby Oil as a pre-shave oil and the results are amazing; You guys may want to experiment with it as well.
