Any of you fellows tried the Special Reserve? I found some at the local barber supply shop and figured I'd give it a go. A bit pricey compared to the usual 6 bucks. It has a very distinct scent. If you've tried it and can help me describe the scent I'd appreciate it.

i have the special reserve in my rotation.. kinda a smokey leather scent.. reminds me of vintage leather bound library books... it's very nice.. but like the name says.. i have to keep it in my "special reserve".. not really something you can wear everyday... or that often for that matter.

Definitely a better description than I have for it. I'd have to say that when it starts it smells like a mix of stale deer pee, a smidge of skunky weed, and a lot of old hippie bath water. It then fades in to a nicer scent like you describe, old leather perhaps even mixed with a bit of patchouli or sandalwood. After about 20 minutes it really is quite nice. The initial scent is a knockout.

Vanilla sort of does the same thing. It starts out w/ an undertone of skunk (yes, skunk!), but after about 5 mins, you have a nice, manly, understated vanilla-like smell. One of my favorite A/S, especially for the warmer months! Works especially well after SRD's blood orange soap.

Wow! Unbelievable! This stuff smells like skunk and bong water and Lilac Vegetal takes all the flak!? I don't get it? Speaking of which, I need to pick up some Lilac Veg for summer.

That's what I was hoping for but the shop didn't sell any. Maybe I should contribute a bottle of special reserve to the give aways.

Lilac vegetal smelled like diapers in the bottle but I tried it anyway. Much better on the skin than just whiffing it from the bottle.

The bay rum was my first splash, I love it. The vanilla clubman is great for night shaves, I find the scent is soothing when I'm trying to wind down and rest before a big day.

I'm wearing the classic PC right now- guess I'm a Pinaud fan!
