    Default Scent matching

    Gentlemen.

One of the biggest challenges I have come across is matching up the scents of my aftershaves to my deodorant/antiperspirant.

I feel a deodorant/antiperspirant is vital to my existence. I really do not want to be one of those people in the office who smell strongly of BO after half a day so basically it is an absolute must for me.

The problem is that most of these products are scented and if used with aftershave can confuse the overall effect.

I recently purchased some Old Spice Original aftershave along with the matching deodorant stick. While not my favourite scent, I am happy with the overall effect. It matches well. But it got me thinking that there must be a better way.

So I guess I would like to know how you gentlemen combat this problem.

How do you go about using a deodorant/antiperspirant along with wonderful aftershaves such as Bay Rum, Speick, Proraso, Pinaud Clubman, Tabac and so on.

Are there quality unscented deodorant/antiperspirants in existence?

Thanks in advance for any input gentlemen.

    Yes, this can be challenging.

I have so many EdT's and after shaves that don't come with a matching deodorant.
And I want to smell whatever I feel like on any given day

The solution for me is to use an unscented anti-perspirant.
There are several out there to choose from.
One you can readily find in any perfumerie is Biotherm deo for men. this is good stuff and keeps you fresh all day.
Pharmacies will certainly hava a selection of odorless stuff too.

Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

IME, i've found that my deodorant has never overpowered my aftershaves or colognes. I wear Old Spice sport, or something similar.

I don't worry about matching now. When people get up close, they smell the aftershave before anything else.

You could also look for the cologne/aftershave gift packs at holiday time, where you get the shaving balm, deodorant stick, and small bottle in the same box.

I used to do that when I was in University.

    MykelDR,

You could try using an alum block as an anti-perspirant as they are un-scented.

    Have fun !

    Best regards

This is a sometimes maddening question. I have a fair amount of colognes, and I have tried, as much as possible, to get the matching deo. But the problem is that sometimes the deo is not produced anymore, is very hard to get, or you only have the spray rather than the stick.

Some patience, a few secondhand stores, and internet scouting may help, but other than that I think it's worth keeping in mind a matrix of compatible smells. For e.g., some may use a generic fougère deo (Felce Azzura, Brut, etc) to go with a fougère cologne (Wild Fern, etc). Sometimes, I use Caron Pour un Homme deo with Le 3e homme as EdT because they share some similarities, and the deo does not overwhelm my EdT.

Bear in mind that very few people will smell both your armpits and your neck at the same time. They're usually called Significant Others and are already mad or grumbly about your cologne and shaving product addiction...

    +1.

The simplest solution seems to be non-scented deodorant. However, if having a scented deodorant is important to you all you can do is get matching scents (ie Old Spice AS and deo) or at least choose products that are either similar or don't clash too much.
