Yeah, given that it is a block of salt, you want to make sure it has a chance dry out.

When I used the standard Alum Block, I'd always wind up dropping it in the sink, and breaking it, then it became like shards of broken glass, so I finally broke down and bought a razorock. It's over a year old, and it's finally wearing down. It's about a 1/2 inch nub right now....I like the Razorock better, I'm less likely to drop it....

I actually kinda like the taste. Not that I go around wrong the thing but when rubbing it on my face some gets on my lips then I may lick my lips. Over all it reminds me of a sour patch kid... A sour/sweet assault on the taste buds, just what I need to wake up in the morning.

There is a very funny routine with the 3 Stooges where one is cooking and adds powdered alum to the recipe by mistake. As they eat the food their mouths pucker up and they can hardly talk. Very funny stuff.

I've gone through a few blocks. The problem is at some point they become too thin and you wind up dropping it and that's the end of the story.

Seems a lot of the problems regarding the alum block revolve around dropping it at some point. Have any of you tried Razorock alum blocks? Seems to me their design allows for a better grip.

It depends on how you use it.
If you lick it more than once or twice per shave it will not last very long.
