Favorite Combo's
Hi all. Very newb to this, but what are some of your favorite combo's scent wise?
This morning I used a sample of Queen Charlotte Cayman Cream followed by Aqua di Gio cologne. Seemed to combine very well together.
I used AOS unscented preshave oil and aftershave balm. I must say, this was my best shave ever two weeks into this.
Cheers,
Veto

Hello, Veto:
I do not use combinations of soap or cream with specific aftershave or cologne.
By the time I rinse my Hollywood face with warm water after the shave, apply alum, rinse with cold water, apply witch hazel, unscented aftershave balm (except for Trumper's Coral skin food), the soap or cream's scent has long vanished. The matching you note, therefore, will have no significance in my case.
Or course, other gentlemen might do as you with their shave. In the world of wet shaving, personal preference negates almost everything else.
Regards,
Obie

+1 to Obie as usual, it's all about preference. I use the cold rinse, then witch hazel. I usually follow it up with some Udder Cream , because as strange as it may sound, it works wonders as an all day moisturizer. Then finish it off with some Clubman. After the Clubman you dont need a combo. IMO that scent lasts all day... And I love every minute of it!

I went from cold water rinse to coldwater rinse/icecube rub as my cold water is not very cold right now. then unscented nivea lotion and my avon deep woods aftershave (it comes in goofy bottles but smells really good) which has a scent that lasts.

I find myself in a similar situation to the Great Obie. I take enough time that the soap scent has all but disappeared, but I still like to pick my scents accordingly. I will occasionally use the same scent for an aftershave to enjoy the scent for a longer period, but I will also find a scent that compliments if I want to sense a different experience.
Quite often I will combine a spicy scent like bay with a fruity/citrus scent like lime.
Lately I have been combining nutty scents with spicy scents for a pastry like shave and I also just started combining floral scents with earthy scents to create a countryside sensation.

I rinse, then use Alum, rinse, dry, followed by Witch Hazel. I'd love to be able to just rinse the soap off, and leave it at that. Most days, I probably could. Most of these soaps and creams are very moisturising and have wonderful fragrances, but just don't last. I enjoy them while I'm using them. Once the Witch Hazel dries, I find myself looking for an AS Balm. I've spoke of Taylor of old Bond St. Sandalwood luxury aftershave gel. This suff truly is "Luxury" It's a thick gel, not a whimpy cream, so it's great if you have irriatation, or not. What I really like about it, is the long lasting sandalwood fragrance. I haven't found anything that comes close to this in the "Lasting Fragrance Dept"
When I use it, which is sparingly, it's pricey, but well worth the extra money, I don't need Cologne, which I wear most days, (John Varvatos, Eternity, Cool Water, Lagerfeld, and Full Metal Jacket mainly) once my AS or AS Balm wears off. Especially if your using a balm, they really don't last at all either, but TOBS Luxury does...I work 330p-1200am and can smell it's wonderful fragrance into the evening. If you splash water on your face, it seems to re activate. Good stuff. Maybe it's my body chemistry? Colognes, AS's, Just don't last on me...If I wear a Cologne, I bring the bottle to work, and reapply 2x maybe...?Last edited by zib; 07-11-2011 at 01:07 PM.
