Thanked: 1DIY Bay Rum Aftershave - anyone tried?
I did a google search on "bay rum" and came across a few sites with recipes for making bay rum aftershave, both alcohol based and non-alcohol. It looks kind of interesting. Has anyone tried that? How did it turn out? I'm thinking I'll spend the same amount on materials to make my own (just lots more of it) as I would spend on something I can give the "sniff test" to right then and there.

Thanked: 346To me, bay rum looks and smells like dilute Angostura bitters. Not sure why you couldn't mix it with water and alcohol to your preferred strength.

Any specific site in general from your google masta search? List them and some people can try the same one to see what they both think of the results.

I haven't decided if I want to try this, or just buy a bottle of Clubman..
I also noticed the thread on homemade aftershaves...sorry for the repeat.

I have a version made by Axel Schaab. I've also added some peppermint oil and get a little chill from that for a while. It's really nice When it's all gone I'll be making my own as well.

I've opend it a couple of times and it is interesting to smell how it changes over time. By next week I think it will have a nice scent. I'll report back then.

Sixgun,
I ran across that first site that you posted a year or two ago and never tried it out. It was just easier to go to the local health food store and pick up a bottle of Dominica Bay Rum (my favorite). If you try any of the receipes out, let us know. I might just have to give it a bit of a go myself besides, it'd give me an excuse to go out an pick up a nice bottle of rum and it can't hurt to have that around.
