If you're into this sort of thing, it's a great styleguide to classic gentlemen's fragrances.

I must say that in the insecurity of my youth, I tended to overuse expensive cologne - nowadays hardly any at all, just some Bay Rum after shaving, but an occasional dab of vetiver or sandalwood base is still appreciated, by myself and certain ladies in my acquaintance ;-)

If you follow this thread, it means that these classic and reasonable priced colognes are prefered over many expensive brands, by people with the money and access. If you try a few you might like them.

Most of these scents are under $40.
May your lather be moist and slick, the sweep of your razor sure, and your edge always keen!

I don't know if I'd be looking to politicians and actors for their choice of cologne. These are the type of people who need the constant approval of those around them, so what they wear tends to be biased towards the lowest common denominator. These are all nice scents, but they're a certainly neutered for mass appeal. I mean they're pretty safe choices and definitely narrowed beyond the standard department store fare, but if you want the thing that works best on you, you should sample on your own skin and see how much you really like it.

Some of my favorites are 100 old blends, others are from the last 5 years. There is so much diversity and with proper dosage even stuff like Tom Ford's Vintage Tabarome isn't all that expensive to wear (I have a small decant that's plenty for all special occasions where it'd be appropriate).

    Hi Gugi,
You misunderstood me. I am the "lowest common denominator".

My personal Favorites are Creed stuff. Especially Green Irish Tweed. However, I'm flat broke with a new pricey hobby.

I was specifically posted about relatively inexpensive colognes because I want to add variety and volume to my scent stash!

And here was I thinking they'd have had better taste than that.

Still, credit where credit's due: if it weren't for the old 4711, we'd have to admit we were wearing perfume.

None intended! I am just an opportunist using the opportunity to get hoglahoo digest some visibility By the way, "Honemeisters: Who to let in, who to keep out" is a great article if you have a chance to read it. You can't be too careful these days
