Although, if you look at the Wikipedia entry, Nike the sportswear company is correctly pronounced [naɪkiː], as opposed to Nike the Greek goddess, pronounced [nǐːkɛː].
So popular but apparently correct in the context.

Thanked: 39Sure they did. They invented this stuff, called it "sandals" then. They even held the first marathon. Only one participant at that time - today there are ten-thousands.
Luckily the mobile communications network had not been as developed at that time, otherwise we would not have that today. No Marathon, no running shoes and probably not Nike...
But yes, nike does not translate to "running shoe"
