This is definitely something you have to consider when making scales. Also you have to keep in mind how they will align when in the open/stropping position.

yes I think they would difinately interfer when stopping unless you held then at 90° to the blade

I have drawn about 20 different desgns so far, cut 5 out of black card to lay over the blade drawing photo to see how it all looks & still tinking of more each day LOL

Yup, ergonomics will be tricky :P. Stropping is going to be a cusser regardless, but I'll try some cardboard before I start cutting carbon fiber to try to get a feel.

Have a look at your design and then rotate it as you would if you were stropping the razor. Where is that giant tail on the scales going to fall?

My biggest concern is how to wield a beast like that when shaving. Love the idea of big scales to match the blade but don't want to make it unusable - will be tricky enough given the blade's own wickedness!

Almost the kind of blade you simply need a sheath for.

Yup, stropping in the conventional position with blade and handle aligned is a no-go. When I try it with the cardboard, I'll have to see if it's manageable in a 90 degree position.

Ok, I'm really not trying to pick on you here But how do you think you're going to be able to strop with the scales at a 90 degree angle to the blade and be able to flip the blade? The design just isn't practical at all.

Thanks for your opinion. I'm certainly willing to entertain any ideas you may have.

Stropping with the scales at 90 degree might be possible if you can hold it from the outside
