Suavio - originally I had my doubts about the scale shape but I think they are going to really complement the blade.
Suavio, do you intend to make the blade balance if so you may need something heavier than the horn for the wedge, as they are a fairly heavy blade to counterweight. this is why I went with the solid brass, you may be ok with the larger bone area for the wedge with the horn & copper JMO.
Tonight I got home to an email from Glen(gssixgun). I had Bruno send him a blade to fit with some Glen scales:rock: The pics I just received make the wait for the mailman a challenge.
Specs:
Blade: 02 steel @ RHC target 60-61
8/8 size
Polished out
Blued the top of the Tang and Tail to match the file cuts :)
Scales: Purple / Black G10 @ .110" Thickness
Wedge: Vivid Violet Acrylic
Pins: NiAg
Inside Washers: Brass
Outside Washers: Stacked SS

And now the FAMOUS Glen balance pic....

I can't wait to have it in my hands and take it for it's maiden voyage.
Thanks to Bruno for making it for me and to Glen for all the finish work! This won't be my last Bruno blade.:nono:
Very nice in deed
I had mine done but I couldn't get the scales the same on both sides and I had to push the blade into the scales to get it in. So I'm starting over after I get a scroll saw.
I'm using 113 year old red oak taken from from 2x4's taken out of my house during remodeling. I'll post pics when I get it done.
Much like CoachMike I got my bruno blade sent out to my buddy Val (thegentlemansden) and he just sent me some update pictures. Needless to say I'm getting very anxious to see the final outcome.
The file work is going to be left at the 8oo grit finish for contrast and I have custom color resin blank for the scales on its way from Tom at a company called Beyond Wood products.

Looking good!
This is why I don't sand into the filework, but leave it with the firescale from heat treatment.
That kind of filework is going to be a place that will turn dark over time unless you clean them out each and every time.
Otoh, by leaving the blackness, the steel is protected better, and it will also make a very nice contrast with the polished spine.
Work has largely been keeping me away from my hobbies, but here's a quick update. All pins are in except the final pivot pin, which can wait until I've finished sanding and polishing the blade. Still have a bit of work to go there.
The scales are stained bone, have a deeper brown colour and variety of tones that these cell phone pictures don't show. The wedge is black horn lined with polished copper. Pins are stainless steel. I added an extra faux (non functional) pin at the rear, just for looks. Two at the front, two at the back, I think it'll look great once done.

Certainly looking very nice Suavio t
He colour of the Blaine really does suit it
Can't wait to see the final polished job
That bone is lloking very nice. Did you do the staining yourself?
Thanks Bruno, yes I did a lot of experimenting with natural stains and tannins - mostly acorn and walnut husk mixtures - and was hoping to get it much darker but in the end I really liked the marbled look so I stopped repeating the staining process. These were taken from a very rough piece of bone and there's more where that came from so I'll try a darker set at some point.

OOOOOOOHHHHHHH
This is absolutely stunning
now this is just being mean setting the bar so high for the rest of us with our BrunoBlades now LOL
Very well commissioned tcrideshd
I realy realy realy love the ivory & the black just sets it off
the satin finish of the blade suits the natural finish of the Ivory spot on :tu
Absolutely stunning work (yet again) by Glen to finish it to this level & quality, just reiterating the potential of every blade when combined with the right materials & craftmanship :bow
I think this would nearly be a RAD killer for me
Wait up no it wouldn’t, it just makes me want to set my own bar even higher
The bruno blade is all finished. All honest input is welcome and appreciated.

Very nice Dexter
What are the over all specs - size, materials & how long etc?
I realy like the scale material especially in the 2nd photo it looks like it has a lot more colour in it that the brighter photos show
& where did you get the wedge washers from as I have an old stub tail that would suit them maybe?
Is she honed up & shaved with yet ?
Very nice looking stuff
The steel from what Bruno told me is close to 01steel but has some stainless properties. Cant remember what steel he said specifically. Hopefully he still chime in and let us know. I have it in an old email somewhere.
The scale material its acrylic that you can pick the color and Tom still color match it. He also does really cool blanks intergrating wood and resin together. I have a matching silvertip brush on its way. And I think im going to get a bowl blank with this resin and maple burl.
I didnt refinish the blade myself . I will ask Val (thegentlemansden) were he gets his stuff. He is shipping itout to me soon so iwill have a shave review done as soon as possible
Looks great!
The polishing came out well, but I like the scales even more. The read and MOP combination goes well with the steel. I also think it is a nice touch to have the washers of the end pin very big and the pivot pin small. I can't really say why, but it does work very well.
It is 1.2842 aka O2.
It is definitely NOT stainless, but it is true that it is more stain resistant than O1 because there is some chromium in there. I notice the difference when grinding. O1 gets an orange sheen very quickly. O2 not so much, or at least much less. I also notice it gets water stains less quickly.
O2 also has less alloying than O1, and no tungsten. In my personal opinion and experience so far, I consider O2 superior to O1 for razors.
Thank you bruno for the kind words and the info on the metal. I really need to remember it this time.
I think Jimbo is the current title holder, with 3 razors made by me :)
There is a contender for the crown though :D
In any case, it took a couple of days for SRD to put them online. They sold before I even knew they were available.
I'm not so sure that Bruno's Blade Club can be exclusive to razors alone,,,:hmmm: ,,in a few months there may be a new, tiny crown being worn,,,,,,,;)
those blade look great Bruno,
So do we need to start a new thread now for the 100% Bruno completed blades something "Snail Forge" Fever
could see this being a popular thread it would seem going by how quick they sold.
I can feel me some Snail Forge Fever stirring in my soul LOL

image liberated from the W.W.W.
I,m humbled to be in the same company as Birnardo! Brunos blades are my favorite of the customs I have, and a great guy to do business with,, keep up he great work Bruno and , ill be patiently waiting to take that crown! tc
I just can't begin to thank Bruno enough for providing such a nice quality custom razor that almost anyone can afford. I may never own a mastro livi or anything like that but I am truly proud to own a razor from Bruno.
Very nice
one down for Snail Forge Fever
now who has the other ???
so there is more to this than meets the eye Bruno
very nice razor
True. And because you only see the end side of the spacer, the effect isn't really noticeable outside very low light conditions. I've been think about GITD scales, but not sure. It may work with pattern welded steel.
After much thinking and consideration (actually, just procrastination), I decided to re scale my BB. I'd initially tried acrylic:
Attachment 170940
But felt like I wasn't doing the blade justice. After some extended time at the drawing board, here it is in its new Gabon Ebony (Holy Buckets! THAT stuff is HARD!) scales with a nice brass wedge. Simple, but I think, elegant:
Attachment 170941
that looks a bit more user freindly Mike
love the scales Mike that is very nice tc
I have to say that the new scales are far nicer than the orignals, good work, i am still not a fan of micro fastners (mostly from a practcal point of view, they need to be maintained to stop them coming loose, well they did in the one razor i tried with them but i can imagine it being an issue accross the board), but nonetheless it looks really good
