Not sure on the date to be honest. I bought it from Shave Nation and it was listed as new.
Is the tang stamped or etched? Mine is from the 70s, and I bought it from the original owners widow. He had 2 of them, that he used once, and put in the sock drawer because he didnt like the shave. I,m not sure when they went from stamping to etching, but I'm betting there is a know-er of FrogLore that can assist in the dating around here somewhere.

I always wondered what a Wotan was...Other than that razor?

THAT is likely the most beautiful example left!
    Hat's off, Steve!

    What exactly IS a Wotan?
Other than this fine razor, of course!

    NO! I shan't google it!

Actually Tom, this is the only Wotan I have ever seen. I'm sure there are more of them, just not on Ebay! I assume you want me to keep an eye out on your behalf?

I have a Henckels Wotan, except mine is a safety razor, similar to the Rapide, well almost identical, I'm guessing it is just a later version.

That one at the bottom-left? Not so late, I think!

I have had a few Wotans pass through my hands. 5/8 razors.
What is the number on that Wotan, Steve?

Both my Emperors are #81's, despite one being round point and one square.

I am not sure that the correct razors are in the correct boxes, but the top left box and the bottom right boxes are Wotans.
Bottom left is a Rapide, and I have it with me here at work. I was guessing that the Rapides came first. My thinking is that the first of these were actually made by a French company, and the company was actually Rapide, and I believe either the company or the patents got bought up by Henckels. So I was thinking the Wotans came after the Rapides.

Tom, I think Wotan is the Anglo-Saxon version of the god Odin.

The Wotan razor pictured above is impressive!

I've never heard of a hero named Phrank, though.
