    hey guys,
Got a W&B for my lady. It has "the one and only genuine bow razor manufactured soley by Wade%Butcher" on the blade. No royal intials. And only the bow symbol on the tang. Sorry no pics. Smart phone is acting up. I'm just wondering if anyone mate be able to give me an approx date. Oh also it doesn't say england or sheffield anywhere. Is it pre 1891 then?

Hi there spindoctor. You'll find some info here:

What I can add to that though is that you have found a good razor for her. As long as it isn't damaged, get it honed up and it should be a great shaver.

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

What do you guys think about this one? First the pictures before waging the razor and the others are after a light polishing. I kind of like the scales but I do not know if they can be salvaged. I plan to gift it to my dad, of they could be restored without too much hassle.

It looks good! I can't see anything wrong with the scales in these pics. Looks like mottled horn AKA faux tortoise shell. Very nice.

    Peace,

as you can see the scales have started to show some cracks, but I wonder if they can be repaired. I believe they scales are some sort of resin and they are translucent.

Hard to tell from a photo when you've got the razor in hand. If they are superficial age cracks, and aren't effected by handling/stropping I'd leave well enough alone.

Can they buffed out or do I just have to learn to live with them?

I'd say that depends on whether they are scratches or cracks. If they aren't too deep I suppose you could sand and buff but I would leave them myself.

    Hello all,

I have a question about identifying Butchers on eBay. I have looking for a wedge for awhile and whenever I see what looks like a good deal, there is usually something off about the way the trademarks look. for instance, the fletchings on the arrow will only have 3 or 4 lines, versus 5 or more. Or there will be a comma between "Sheffield" and "England", when many of the ones I have seen have none. Am I being too cautious, or am I being a smart buyer? Anything I should look for besides just the obvious "too good to be true" or "doesn't look right" type inklings?
