Just be careful not to get that wet. Copper and zinc have a good difference in standard reduction potential, so you'll get degradation (and possibly some current) if an electrolyte is present (the same way you can make a battery out of pennies).

edit: not really a caveat though, as it's a pretty slow process

I didn't make the scales thin enough to flex as much as I would have needed it to. I mocked it up first and two was the minimum to not freak me out on snapping the scales at a pinning point... I wasn't brave enough ;-)

Thanks for the tip. I will do my best to keep the universal solvent off of the wedge.

It's too late to edit the old one, but I feel the need for a correction. In light of what I have learned since posting, this is most probably not factory finish; I think the blade face is reground, but the tang has its original finish still. You can see the difference between the finishes; the blade would have had the same finish as the tang originally.

Has anyone seen a tang like this on a W&B and have a link to it? I found this at a gun show today and it reminded me of a Marshes and Shepherd I had that broke in half.Name: image.jpg

It looks like it has been modified with a Dremmel to me. The rest of the lines just don't match.

Here is the latest with new scales done by Stefan. Big heavy black horn combine for a hard nosed looking razor. The other pic is the whole family.

Maybe, but I don't think so. I sure hope it hasn't been altered. The closest I've found in a W&B is a couple that look like this:http://www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=j...84258842740203

I have never seen a W&B with that feature, however I have seen several 1840's greaves with similar Double thumb notches👍 really nice find.

I would say it original- but there's no real way of telling if it is original if it was done well... At least with it not in hand.
