My Doble Temple 14
Hi guys,
So recently I got this Filarmonica - Doble Temple 14 (thanks to Max).
After browsing Max’s shop several times there was always this yearning to once own one of these wonderful Filarmonicas like the once he had sold earlier. A couple of weeks ago I stumbled on Max’s Doble Temple 14 and found out it was for sale!
I often found Max’s razors sold out but this one was still to have. I clicked all the basket- and enter buttons quicker than my brain could process and I even forgot to chose the way of shipping. After the excitement calmed down I was still surprised that I got hold of one of Max’s beautiful Filarmonicas. Communication with Max was super since he is originally from Belgium and still masters the Dutch language.
The Doble Temple 14 is a sweet looker. In the metal it is remarkable how this razor has kept itself over 50 years. I hope my photos show a little of the beauty of the blade. The black handles are still in perfect shape. I am not familiar with other plastic objects of similar old age but this looks great. The ‘waves’ in the surface of the scale on the logo side are just like craquelé in an old masters painting.
And the single harp emblem, without the ‘Filarmonica’ next to it makes it stand out, I love it. Shaving with the heavy blade is so sweet, Max put a killer edge on it. The handling is very comfortable; the slight off-balance of the blade-heavy razor makes it an impressive heavy-weight.
I now must start getting used to not seeing anything in the mirror when I put the blade to my sideburn; the almost one inch large blade completely blocks my view. The blade’s square point then becomes an impressive stinger to be reckoned with. A cut in the ear is made in split second…
Shave by shave I slowly am getting the Filarmonica ‘bug’ that a lot of folks here also seem to have in plenty.
Thanks,
Paul
