Since i started shaving with a Straight i was fascinated by Wedge Razors but had massive Problems shaving with them.
These two i like to show you changed my Problems with wedge-shaving and turned them into a real pleasure, both arent
Razors that might make a Collectors Heart Jump (especially those collectors who prefer High-Shine Razors) but i like it, when they show their age and history, IMO to much polish degrades a classical Razor into a piece of polished steel.
Both Razors are near Wedge and possible made of the same steel, honing was easy & quick done, two "willing" Razors on the Stones.
Shaving with both is similar, HHT was no Problem, the Vauzy is more the easy-going type of Razor while the other one is a bit more speedy on the skin and in the Hands.

This was the first Wedge i had satisfiying shaves with, a Cercle Syndicat de. Coiffeurs dela Seine in 6/8"+ with Horn Scales (i love these french Baguette Style Scales) that are a bit to short for the Blade how you find them often on older french Razor. Had to shorten the Bone Wedge to prevent the Point from aiming it.




And this is my special favourite, shaved with it five days in a row, couldnt imagine that this would be possible with a wedge before the Vauzy (a Brand of the better known Vincent Cutlery with its Veritable Vincent Brand from Thiers) taught me better :-)
Scales are made of Horn, the Pins are made of steel with Brass washers possibly around 1880.

Here a few that I have. I like near wedges that are about 6/8 or smaller. I don't mind the bigger ones, but prefer smaller. That goes with all razors though(near wedge to full hollow). First is a Union Spike, Second SRD 42, and last is a Aerial Cutlery Wedge. I think the Aerial was supposed to have a guard since the edge is 2.5 inches long and the scales are set pretty wide that would accommodate a guard. I have been thinking of making the spacer a wedge and shortening the third pin.

I picked up this Frederick Reynolds Frameback or Rattler for $50 on ebay a few months back. It is one of the wider ones that I have seen and it has a perfect smile I wanted to do something different scales wise, so I experimented. I found this place Logs to Lumber and they have so many crazy colors of this Acrylester material which has translucent properties. The owner was really cool and gave me the exact size that I needed which was a huge help. You know how hard it is to find scale material that is large enough. Anyway, my buddy Sam made the scales for me after I found a shape to go with the razor. Overall I love it. Its a great shaver, might be my best shaver and its very unique. I was fortunate to purchase this "Bengal" 7/8s from stimpy52 a while back.
A nice change of pace from most other razors.

Cudarunner lent me a wedge last week to try. Holy **&^ was that a different experience! Felt like I was learning to straight shave all over again!

Heres mine. decided my bevel was to small . resetting a wedge bevel is kicking my butt, Plus I am trying it with just a BBW. In way over my head. 1 hour and just got bevel set . no hair poppin ,Crox fixed it but I aint going out that way. Going to pyramid it till I get it .

Oh and here is when I tried molasses to remove rust, before I got my first buffer and smoked the name plate
It was a Lowson and Hayden. So I got my spine wear and bevel height. Not all my restores went perfect but I am just like all of the rest of the newbies learning as I go .

and a baby wedge from washington works that I got close to right but not my first choice wedge

Lastly Grandpa as I call him look past him, he shaves like a dream


As you can see I am a work in progress.

Wow that Nowill is a beauty, just love those scales, I will post some pics of my wedges when I finish them nothing quite on that level

Then there's a Gilbert Bros.



Both are very comfortable shavers.
