Thread: The "Shumate Shaving Society"

For the Record, regarding the proper pronunciation of "Shumate",,,, I can trace my ancestry and last name back to the late 1700's and NO ONE in the Shumate family pronounces the the name other than SHOOOOOOO-MATE!!! Stop trying to "fancy up" the name! It's the Anglicized form of a surname with German origins the spelling of the name probably being "Schmette". This is a name of locative origin meaning tree stump, or someone who lived near a tree stump. It might have some Slavic influence as Schmette is cream in Slavic dialects. Any other questions?
