I'm not saying they are the same but this Engstrom looks mighty similar.

YOMV. I have a few of the Japanese frameback super shavers. One is etched Swedish Steel. Another Finest English Steel. The honing geometry of the Japanese spine is quite different from the Swedish spine and gives a lesser included angle than the Swedish'. That notwithstanding, they are similar. The Japanese have used steels from many sources including Sheffield. The use of a mild steel for the frame has merit and probably the use pre-hardened strip stock and the use of a eutectic solder is still cheaper than a making a solid frameback razor.

I can see where you're coming from but the difference becomes a lot more obvious when you look att from another angle, Japanese framebacks look like this.

I am not saying they are the same as I have a couple of Japanese frameback razors myself, just that at least from a profile view they look similar. To be honest I think Japanese asymmetrical blades are even more unique.

Similar or not, it is very obvious that Japanese framebacks were not designed or made outside of Japan. That was my original point.

Technically yes, but some are more than others.

SK2. Been hunting for a long time for a good example at a fair price. Photos were less than average but I took a chance and it paid off. NOS, never seen a hone. Bellied grind. Just needs a gentle clean.
Surprised it made it here, the street address was totally wrong.

Yes - that is a real beauty, I've been feeling the pull of one of those for a long time, and the SK 2 was the exact one I was thinking of....and that is a great example, great purchase.

Personally, I would very much appreciate your thoughts on your first shave or three with that when it's ready....
