the sanmai is another type of carbon steel manufactured by Mastro Livi and which in ancient times was used for the construction of the Japanese katana. Its characteristic is that it is composed of two types of steel: two sheets elastic at the sides and a type hard to the center that acts as a cutting edge.

This razor is very dear to me. Not only because it has my name carved on it but also because it is the result of a union of ideas between Mastro Livi and myself. I asked him to make a razor which would perfectly fit in my hand, with a perfect grip: he "tailored" the whole tang on my hand and we came up with this ergonomic grip. It is a modified version of Mastro Livi's popular thumb place, he sometimes put on his razors. And, as for the thumb place, it is absolutely comfortable.
The blade is San Mai and made from two different damascus steels.
Yes, you are right: I am very happy to have that razor! It means a lot to me!The RazorGuy - StraightRazorChannel on Youtube and Google+

It's a gorgeous razor. I'm going to have to add that type of metal to the wish list lol, despite not yet receiving my second livi I'm already planning my third. Lol I'm having to make space in the cupboard. Going to sell a limited edition Ti.
I'm thinking about an 8/8 with the RWL34 steel and either a buffalo or stag scale

Guys is the RWL34 steel razors more expensive than the damasteel damascus razors ?

No. I think that the price of steel RWL34 is similar to that of steel damasteel. The carbon steel and the sanmai that realizes Mastro Livi requires a processing more 'long and therefore the cost is higher.
If you take a 34 RWL become 'your favorite razor, I'm sure!

I am fortunate to know personally the Master and the privilege of seeing him work several times. Each razor that makes it a work of art that releases all the passion that puts us Mastro Livi. It takes several hours, sometimes a whole day to make a razor. He follows an order at a time without hurry. If the razor does not like, he does not get out of his shop. This happens rarely! I've been waiting two months for an order. But time is not a problem then comes when such a masterpiece!

Mmmm we'll il send him an email today and enquire about this new razor project. I'm thinking something really special, I'm thinking cow horn (buffelow) scales. RWl34 8/8 razor with barbers notch. Thumb notch and two finger holds behind the razor and finished with a beauty of a tang. I'm thinking mirror polished and full hollow =).
It will be the biggest razor I will have owned but I'm learning it's not about the size but the angle when shaving with straight razors.
Must say very excited

Sam, I'd highly recommend hoping on a plane and visiting Mastro Livi in his workshop. I did this in September (have a look here: Straight Razor Place - My Mastro Livi 40th birthday experience (pic heavy)). I met up with Antonello (Razorguy) who helped me tremendously as I spoke no Italian, with Mastro Livi. It was an unforgettable experience and I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who wants to see their custom razor being created from start to finish.
All the best,
Jody

maybe you have already 'seen. This is my 8/8 Full Hollow RWL 34 spanish point with horn handle transparent. When closed, I can see the blade! We would certainly recommend the full hollow grind 'cause it's true specialty' Mastro Livi. You know who gets the grinding for removal using 4 different size and what 'makes the razor exceptionally "singing" and deep. If you are the drawings a tang you he will 'certainly as you want. I always leave open the Master to carry out the tang as he wants: is an artist and artists are free men!
I understand your excitement, but the same thing happens to me! I'm very happy for you!
