Well, I finally broke down and bought a Hart 7/8 square point, satin finish, cocobolo scales. I love it. I'm finding the heavier blade really makes a difference, for me. Nice to buy a quality American made product, for a change.

I have 7 of these GREAT razors these are the only thing I shave with, say what you want, but I like them some do and some don't everyone is different I have never had one that would not shave great out of the box and the big thing they are made in the USA not to say I do have about 45 vintage razors but I like my Hart Steels. This is just me to each his own as to how they feel.

Time to add another one to the list...
Just received my Hart Steel razor. This one is made by JA. Here are some stats...
Hart Steel, 5/8ths Round Point, Quarter Hollow Ground, O-1 Tool Steel (0.9% carbon content placing it in the high carbon steel category), walnut scales, bottom-only jimps, stamped with the Hart Steel logo and "Made in USA" on the shank. This particular one was made by JA. Place of manufacture: USA.
Very plain and simple...nothing fancy. I'm sure it's going to be a great razor. The blade was still covered with the oil used to protect it during shipping. Enjoy...

Thanked: 104Hey Bambos, bearing our exchange rate, what are you paying for a nice HART. They have just appeared on Australian retail sites starting at $375 AUD...whats that nearly 200 quid....seems a lot, when I can get new 6/8 dovo's for less than 100 quid. It may be a NICE razor, but nearly $400 aud, I'd buy Thiers Issard sparticus, and have enough left for a polish! What's a good price for this brand. We could be dudded by retailers here and that retailer for those interested it is 'Shaver Hut' in Australia. They are between $350 & $400 AUD. It's fair to say that in the SRP they have a following. Are they twice as good as a Dovo Bismarck 6/8? I take on board the opinions of members of this site. But A Dovo 6/8 bismarck at $174.00 in OZ, half the price of the cheapest Hart. If they are twice the quality, and good value as opposed to Dovo, Thiers Issard, then I am listening. I am so happy for Hart users, but would you pay over $400 for an entry level razor, thats what Shaver Hut charge Ozzies. I'd love to try a hart, but I won't pay a price that is clearly double razors imported from Europe. My assessment of Razors, Quality, functionality and value rule my decision. I can't see value in paying double. Easy question? Is a hart twice as good as any dovo. If not why should we pay double. Sorry guys in the US, but we here get stuffed by our retailers.

Thanked: 1It's a good razor, but I don't think the US$300 I paid for my 7/8 polished square point, was worth it. I think a fair price point would be about $200. I'm keeping mine but wouldn't buy another, at new prices. That's close enough to custom prices to be hard to justify a production razor that I received with an inadequate to me "shave ready, Escher finished" edge, and sloppy finish on the Koa sales that I needed to sand clean

Here's my Hart.
A 7/8 Polished Square Point with Pearlex scales. My example was completely shave ready, and perfect in every way. I once felt that the Harts were a wee bit overpriced, but after receiving mine, I have to back off on that assessment.
IMHO, a beautiful razor, and an absolute shaving "machine!"

Thanked: 104Main and only thing is that you get a top shave from your razor. That it holds an edge, which should be little trouble getting shave ready. A prior quote compared cups of tea. Great comparison, assuming tea is a razor. I'm sure Harts are a nice shave, but 20 bucks for a cup of tea? As far as a comparison in Australia goes. If you are happy to pay top dollar, then all power to you and enjoy your shaver. I have a fair few razors, some are naturally good, others need coaxing, some vintage, some brand new. for $375 for a hart it would want to be better than average. Fair enough?
