Another MAD one!
Hi guys,
Congrats to all previous posters and owners of a MS Custom.
I am proud to be in the ‘club’ too.
This is my MS custom square point 8/8 - 1/4 hollow.
The Max Sprecher razor has been fitted and customized with M3 Mokume gane Black/Gold scales and tapered with a transparent wedge. Pins and Washers are brass, stainless steel and nickel silver
The blade's width is 8/8 : 1/4 Hollow
Square End
Steel: 1095 - Double tempered
Total weight: 2.90 oz
Total cutting edge: 2.90 inches
And that concludes the specs Max supplied with the razor.
My own experience is of course of quite a different order. After the post delivered the box I unwrapped like a four-year old boy. Inside the black cardboard box there was a fancy jewelry box. When I opened this there was this moment of glory.
What a stunning razor Max has made! The 8/8 blade has a beautiful grind. This was something I never really got when you guys talked about it here, but now, phew. Its level of finish and detail is so high. The way the spine transitions into the tang is lovely and the quality of the etched MS emblem striking.
Max managed to get the blade polished to a soft mirror. But the spine and tang are mirroring like you wouldn’t believe. The jimps on the bottom side of the tang are so equally spaced and so fine machined it is unbelievable this is handmade.
And then the scales. This Mokume is absolutely gorgeous. In the pictures it already looked great but held in hand it is impressive! The black with gold speckles and veins is superb. The shape fits the razor so well and the translucent wedge is such a treat.
To paraphrase the ads from a famous Swiss watchmaker; these hand-made razors, you buy them for your grand children. You only look after them while using.
And what a use! The 1095 steel feels very comfortable to the skin. The balance of an 8/8 razor with this mass is so fine, I can make precise and hefty movements and it gives a great feedback. I like the sensation of chopping the whiskers with the hefty chunk of honest steel. And the quality of the shave was hmmm!
As you see I'm pretty impressed by all this. I am not getting paid for this piece of ‘advertising’ but I can’t help it. I like my new toy so much. I hope the photos show somewhat of this beauty.
Thanks MAX!
Kind regards/vriendelijk groeten,
Paul Jansen

The translucent wedge is a treat
How is this for balance? This is no truckery with paintshop or such, just plain old craftsmenship of Master Max!
The jimps are handmade; it's hard to believe.
The etching of Max's emblem is superbe. The mirror polish is eye-blindingly sweet.
The finish of the razor is incredible. The tang is just one example.

Here a couple of bonus pics:
The elegant box, that came with the MS Custom, to store it in.
My main box isn't large enough...
Oh, such trivial problems occur with this beauty.

Since this club was started, I've been drooling over the pics that you guys have been putting up in here. It was just a matter of getting Max to find time for me to be able to join in the fun. Well, today I arrived home to an email from Max with pics of my very own. It is a 7/8 , slanted spike point, 1/2 hollow with a double thumb notch. Scales are Mokume Gane black/white and i believe he said were a burl pattern that he was trying out for the first time. It looks absolutely stunning with the longer tail and the elegant, but subtle work Max did on the spine. Can't wait for the mailman to bring her to me.
Having Fun Shaving
