Default Pending Fancy Vintage Silverteel - Full Hollow, 5/8, spine work, "Wednesday"

This is a vintage german razor from Solingen. There is no manufacturer's stamp.
It is part of an incomplete 7-day set that I picked up long ago and I've already sold the rest.
It's a very nice shaver, just too embellished for my taste.

The size is 5/8 (actual measurement is slightly over 11/16"), the grind is full hollow, doube stabilizer, the vintage quality. I'm not sure if the images show the virtually non-existent even bevel - that is what you want in a razor.

The tang has jimps on top and bottom. I am not sure how well it shows on the images, but the top ones are in fancy a sort of beveled way, not just plain across. There is filework on the spine and day of the week stamp "Wednesday" painted in gold.
The blade decoration is deep etching, again I have not seen anybody being able to do that anymore, and painted dark red and gold. It's the original paint.
I noticed on the images that there is still some leftover oil and dust, even though I tried to wipe it off well.
The scales are, again, the original cream plastic with brown wedge with Solingen on them. The front scale has bowed out - it hasn't changed for at least 5 years, may be longer (I don't really remember when I got them).
The blade, is centered and properly tight, so this isn't a functional issue.

I think the stamps and etching are quite clear in the images, so I won't retype them here

It is shave ready, and if the buyer needs it I'll certainly be happy to hone it down the road when it needs it, all they have to cover is the shipping.

I am asking $125, which includes the shipping within US, for international it will be more. This is, I think, what I sold the others for back in the days, and seems like a good price given what the entry level razors cost these days and how much lesser embellishments add to it.

I'm a beginner looking for my first straigt. Would this work for me. I was planning on getting a new dovo 5/8 base model (around 90 to 100 bucks). Pros and cons?

It most certainly is suitable, in a nutshell the pluses are that you'd be getting significantly better blade and a better shaver than the dovo you're looking at (much less hone wear than I've seen on current Dovos too), the minuses are that the front scale is bowed out and it'll probably cost you a little more than the Dovo. (Actually just saw that you're looking to buy from westcoastshaving so the honed Dovo will cost you a tad more, but same ballpark, so I doubt this would be a deciding factor.)
With this one you also get a lot of embelishments - filework on the spine, special jimps, deep etching painted much thicker than what is done nowadays, and all of those are executed at a much higher quality.

As far as shaving goes, it probably doesn't matter much what you get as long as it's well honed and in the standard size (5/8-6/8). You'll have more or less the same learning curve developing the muscle memory over several weeks to a few months, and the differences between similar razors will be second order effects that matter little. After you get fairly proficient you may develp preferences for certain widths/grinds/sizes or you may end up liking everything or just stick to what works for you.

But it's definitely a fun experience no matter what.

Thank you for the reply. I am very interested but I can't say sold yet because I gotta run it by the family because it is a Father's day gift. If it sells before I get back to it, my loss. Payment method?

No worries, there are always plenty of nice razors. If you decide to get something from me payment is pretty much whatever works the easiest for you. Paypal is simple and easy, though I've used other electronic payments as well such as google and amazon, or checks, money orders, etc. - that's the easy part.

That is about the price for a decent new blade or possibly better steel but in need of care old blade.
Do know that you need a darn fine strop in addition to the razor. I have seem some strops
recently in the about $50 range that will do you well.

Do get a razor that is shave ready. Honing your own is another step that is today
well postponed and left to a professional for the first couple times.

I will take it if the "pending" does not work out.
