For what it is worth the silver haired barber I go to still does a neck shave with a straight razor. He has used barbicide on his straights for many, many years with absolutely no problems. Last time I was in he showed me a completely blackened razor. He said his latest batch of barbicide was the culprit. No other difference is the treatment of the razor it was just the first defective batch of barbicide he had ever seen.

Just a quick point: I found a nice Barber's sterilization jar at Sally's from Marvis that's half the height of the usual one. It looks perfect on my counter. Here's one just like it:
