    Question Frederick Reynolds scales

I have a Frederick circa 1885. The scales have a crack. Under magnification they have a grain. What were they made of: Wood, Baleen, or celluloid? Any help would help. Thanks

Hard to tell without some pics.

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

Do not think you could make scales out of Baleen

What color are they ? Could be rescaled in anything and without a pic I would guess horn or slight chance of bone.

Without a pic,the thread is useless. The O.P. is asking people to Identify something no one can see.

Beep Beep looks like HORN to me. Glue or epoxy it and sand it then polish. Glue the washers to it inside and out and run with it. Or make new ones.
