Welcome, and I hope you enjoy the voyage to shaving nirvana. There are some variables to keep in mind, though, when trying to figure out how long a razor might last. It might last for generations or it might last until you knock it on the faucet. You're grandson might shave with it, or you might just drop it on the floor. It might go on a human migration to outer space, or an inexperienced honer might f-up the spine and spoil a once-perfect tool. Your razor might be a treasured keepsake, or your spouse might see your first major gash and suggest that you or your crazy straight razor should go away.

All of the above have happened to me, hopefully you both luckier and smarter than I am -- doesn't take much -- so give it a go, proceed with care, and have some fun with it.
