Vintage C-mons came with fancy scales. The other side would normally have C-mon inlaid in metal on the scale as well.

    I haven't,

If you could take a close up of the pins at the wedge and at the pivot I might be able to tell if they have been popped..

    Is that a "Special" ???

I have seen Specials with scales somewhat like that, but they don't have the crown and have 'P' 'J' 'M' in the bolster at the bottom (for Peter J Michels).

I have got a razor with the same scales, crown on the boss, as yours - on a new Revisor.

So, probably an old blade in new(-er) scales.

    Regards,
    Neil

If that is an Ellicotteville, NY CMon, it came with plain celluloid scales. They had HF, Special, or other logos hot-stamped in them. I know the Ellicotteville Blackies stamp read "Blackie CMon" and the later PJM's read "CMon Blackie. Two different animals as the PJM ones were made in Germany after Carl Monkhouse sold the name to Peter J Michaels and had fancy scales. It could be an early PJM . Those bolsters were on Otto Fromm razors.
Perhaps that is where they came from.

Just checked the half dozen I have and the pile side is as Neil described, with the PJM in the metal end cap. Never saw one with a crown on the end before.

Tom is right - some of the Fromms had scales with that bolster too.

From the current range of new revisor razors:

Yes, I think a popular Solingen bolster. Here is an old Fromm Redhead and a Kabeso with them.
