Update on the off set Torrey 992 - I ended up having the razor given to me for next to nothing after a bit of clean up and honing she is definitely a good razor. My blade angle needs to be just a touch different between sides but she does produce as good of a shave as my other 992.

I've got a 992 and just went and checked, symmetrical spine/bevel. Mighty good shaver but mine was bear to hone. Must have some hard steel in mine.

    Really an interesting thread.
Thanks to all above me (#9-#1) on a great question and thoughtful answers.
My original thought was that there was no way the blade could be honed...after reading the answers; equally bisected bevel angles being simply an aesthetic concept; the fact that Japanese SR have a straight side, and the very blunt, ain't nuthin wrong...I realized just how much I have to learn.
    This site is really awesome!!!
