    Default Art of Shaving Razors

Does anyone have any feedback, recommend or not recommend the straight razors offered at the Art of Shaving stores? I have found some of the razors are made by Dovo, T&I etc.

    What do you guys think?

    Those are all excellent razors.

However, they must be professionally honed to provide you with the best possible shave. I'm not sure that Art of Shaving stores do that.

    Why not ask them?

I'm in the same boat. I was given an el-cheapo straight razor, Knowing that that razor is pretty bad I've been researching for a better blade.

Dovo and TI both get good reviews.

The TI they have on that site is a basic black and you might be able to get it cheaper.

I'm personally looking at the Basic black ‘Le grelot form’ ‘Basic Black’ razor, It's £88 in the uk.

It's shoulder-less, And had a deeper thumb grip. But it's made out of the same carbon steel as the one's on TAOS. It is not a full hollow razor however and will take longer to hone.

    Nice new razors.

    Hefty old fashioned retail prices.

I believe they mark them up quite a bit. If you're looking for the plain Dovo you can get (if in stock) from someone like SRD for much cheaper, and it's already honed. If you're looking for super cheap, you can do knifeworks.com but then you have to pay to get it honed. I think SRD is the best bet cause you get all the service that comes with it (and a free hone in the future).

The Art Of Shaving is overpriced, You can get the same or similar razors cheaper elsewhere

I live near the King of Prussia Mall in Philadelphia that has an Art of Shaving retail store and all I can say is that better prices and information can be found here on SRP! Just my 2 cents

Yeah, I know their prices are high. At first I told myself I would never buy anything from there when I first entered the scene but there is someone selling a package they received as a gift locally. Razor has never been used, comes with starter kit of cremes etc (could give as a gift for xmas) and a strop. The price is right for the package but then again, I saw a Dovo Strop on ebay for $40... Could of been a knock off. But the strops on line are not that expensive from what I have seen.

Anyway, I was not sure if in the Straight Razor world, a company (like Dovo for example) who makes razors for a company (like AoS) would use less expensive materials to make the product since it does not have the makers direct name on it.

    Thanks for the change folks!

AoS staff all seem to claim their razors are shave ready, but I do not ever recall hearing a single account of this being true.

If their razors are within your price point go ahead and buy one, just be sure to send it off to someone reputable for proper honing.

Oh no no no do no let the name fool you and don't let me discourage you. I have Art of Shaving after save balm that is really good that I purchased on amazon. Thats the point DONT pay retail. So If you have a second hand set that has little or no use, then it's likely a good deal. I think Dovo is Dovo no matter who sells it. Its just that SRD ( straight razor designs) puts their final touch on it ensuring it is ready to go! if the price is good go for it and take the rest from there.
