Thanked: 0picked up a thiers-issard for dirt cheap
30 shipped total came with the cool looking old paddle strop (which im sure cant be used but looks cool). Im almost certain that this razor is too beat to be restored and the description didn't mention if it was cracked or super rusted on the cutting edge all it said was there is "some" pitting. I couldn't pass it up though i figured its worth the risk for a thiers-issard 69. The scales and pins define'tly look like they need replacing which im ok with as long as the blade makes it out. I am posting pictures this will define'tly be my hardest restore yet. Let me know if you guys think i got a good deal, and if you think it will make it through a restore or not. And how to go about the restore since this is a very sought after razor, also if its possible to restore the strop any info on that would be nice as well since its kinda fancy and cool looking thank you all.-john

Thanked: 0Awesome chevhead any idea on year and history? What should I do with scales? Do they look restorable or should I swap them out? If so any any recommendations on where to get some decent quality scales?

Thanked: 4249Im with Chevhead on this razor, definately restorable, the scales look ok to me as well. You can go a long way with some simple wet/dry sandpaper and metal polishing like Mass or Mothers.
The paddle strop looks pretty good as well, the leather looks way gone, but a replacement piece would yield a usable tool, pretty sweet that the original cardboard protective sleeve look to be in good condition.
In dating this razor, definately not 50's, more then likely around the turn of the century. http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...istration.htmlLast edited by Martin103; 10-18-2013 at 10:02 PM.

Thanked: 4249I would probably start around 300 grit with some WD40, go up from there, you can get leather from Tandy, or even perhaps SRD sells replacement pieces that you might be able to cut to fit.

I'd get some cape cod polishing cloths for the scales. They can work wonders. As far as the razor goes you just have to start cleaning to see what is behind the rust and how far it goes.
