Thanked: 1Ugly razors confidential
Is it ok to like ugly razors? I have a college buddy near me that restores razors and I have been meaning to pick up one them because his clients really like his work. The biggest problem being that the ones he has produce were restored to well in my opinion. They either looked to pretty of sterile for my liking. That is until he posted a Wilbert cutlery that was listed as a good shaver but in poor condition. I knew this is my razor from the moment I saw it. I am normally not excited by tang covers or ornate scales, but the mix of these with the pitted steel really appealed to me. I see posts about pretty razors all day so it has me a bit self conscious about my new girl. I will posts some pictures later but for now to make me feel better maybe some of you can post some ugly razors you love.

Some would argue no razor capable of shaving is ugly. If it is structurally sound then it's just cosmetics. Some like a "razor in the rough".

Seems there is a club for those: "Rustiques" or something like that. I certainly don't mind some patina, but clean patina, please!
"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

I did this one for a young man down in Texas,
While I did 'polish it up some' I tried to leave the heart and soul from days gone by!

It's all personal preference. I personally like a razor that your could see your reflection in, some like the rustic look.

You are quite correct about the 'personal preference' I constantly post about how 99.9% of everything about buying, using, honing, maintaining and everything else about a straight razor is 'personal preference'!!
Here's the link to what Glen did for me with my great grandfather's razor. The original horn scales were de-laminating so I had him make new custom scales for it.

He could have done a re grind, but he wanted to save the soul of the razor with it's big heavy grind!
I'm so glad that he did! When I use it I go back in time to a place when things were much simpler and people took pride in what they did!

Like this?
Stabilized and cleaned the scales, a light buff and took her to the hones.
I like the character on many razors.
It is just Whisker Whacking
Relax and Enjoy!
