Thread: Boker Fleet Street razor

I have a vintage Boker Red Injun 101 and a new Boker Edelweiss (along with a double duck Special#1) both Bokers have provided me great shaves and I like the fit and finish of both of them. I can't comment on their ability to keep an edge yet since both are new to me (less than a month) and honed by experts. While I certainly don't have the extensive SR experience that some of the previous posters have I love my Bokers old and new...a little more than my DD at the moment. We will see how I feel a a couple of years from now when I have more experience with more than a couple brands of straight razors.

I would never give up my RP Red injun. One of my best razors by far.

Is that a can opener on the back?

I guess I should clarify. I don't suggest anyone purchase one of these for the suggested price. If I was a betting man, I'd say this is just the made in China 440 RSO that is all over eBay.

I got mine as an impulse buy at a costume shop for less than 10 bucks. This was before I even considered using a straight razor. On a whim, I tried to shave with it one night and it almost worked. As much fun as I had, I decided to go ahead and get the real thing and purchase my first straight razor and a strop.

A razor it is not. At least not off the shelf. The bevel is horrible and it appears to have been sharpened with a belt sander. I had a weeks worth of standing around to do at work. With all that time on my hands, I reshaped the blade and painstakingly reset the bevel of that beast. Oddly enough, it's now a good shaver.

Once again, this is not a razor. It's a project for an insane person with too much time on their hands. Seriously not for the faint of heart or an impatient person.

In my eyes putting that out there does tarnish their name to a degree. I've always been a fan of German Bokers. Had several of their pocket knives.

I've never owned/used a vintage Boker, but I do enjoy my King Cutter quite a bit. I'd feel safe telling someone to try it. Please take this with a grain of salt though. I've only used my Boker and my AOS (TI) in my 3 years of SR shaving.

Oh yeah? I've got one made across the street from White Friar's priory, before Sweeny Todd had been published!

On a whim I purchased one of the magnum Boker Fleet Street knives, if not for a pocket knife, for a conversation piece at meets and such from a seller I deal with on the bay.

Clearly a big pocket knife and fairly shiny steel. But to put it in perspective here's a vintage Boker Adonis with it.

I didn't know it was Chinese steel as it had none of the ( I thought) mandatory china stickers or identification on it. Either way its not a pocket knife either as it doesn't lock open. It hinges just like a real razor would so would be quite awkward as a knife, if not right out dangerous. Would fall under the concealed weapon moniker too I bet due to the blade length.
So, since I know no better being still pretty new to all this, I'm going to try and tape up the spine and put a proper edge it.
Don't know if I will have the rocks to actually shave with it but hey with a blade that long, I could be shaved, dressed, and at the hospital getting stitches quicker than a three pass shave today. Hehe.
It is nice looking live though I must admit. Deep etching on the steel scales and a cool profile. Was under 20 bucks CDN too so WTF. I have spent that much for one songs worth of entertainment and regretted it more.
